Type 1 Has anyone else been forced onto a new meter?

I was given an Accucheck meter by the DN for which I was prescribed 50 strips a month. I switched to the Contour next one and asked for the prescription to be changed to reflect this, the DN said it was not possible, but on the grounds of COST. She told me that they were limited to prescribing...

    Letter from the doctor

Similar situation here but much better reaction from doctor and diabetic nurse. Through LCHF diet my HbA1c came down from 96 at diagnosis to 34 at 6 months in. I lost 15kg and halved my Cholesterol. The doc was so pleased he stopped my Gliclazide on the spot, fearing I was at risk of hypos. The...

    No appetite

Are you on Metformin? This was the main cause of lost appetite in my case (and many others if you read these boards extensively), if not a discussion with your GP or Diabetic Nurse might be in order.

    Contour meter,

As stated above. Chicken nuggets = high carbs in the coating, and probably in the glue that holds the reconstituted meat together. BBQ sauce = chock full of sugar. Baked beans = chock full of sugar in the tomato sauce. Are you seeing a pattern as to why your levels are not so good :) Check the...

    Don't you just love holidays?

My turn to boast :) I am back on Safari in Kenya in 3 weeks, LCHF should be challenging and interesting :) This will be my first visit since diagnosis.

I spoke to the GP today to get my full results from my 2nd set of bloods taken last week, to say I am pleased is an understatement. Previous results from Feb 2017 HB1aC - 92 Cholesterol - 6.8 Liver function - all ok Kidney function - all ok Latest results HB1aC - 34 Cholesterol - 3.6 Liver...

can metformin or lack of B12 make you sick?

Let me address the "sick to my stomach" issue you are having..... I had a very similar reaction when I was diagnosed six months or so ago, I was put on 1000mg Metformin twice a day. I experienced no stomach upset issues, however my appetite took a dive and I acquired a nasty taste in my mouth...

    Contour Next One Meter

One other way to get a free pot is to tell the GP that you WANT to monitor your levels to see how different foods affect you. In all honesty my GP has been great and is very impressed that I can show him my levels on my phone going back ages.

    Nespresso (other espresso's are available)

Taylors of Harrogate as beans and Vergnano Espresso or Mocha as pre-ground. I can't recommend this one enough.

    Nespresso (other espresso's are available)

Bloody Philistines the lot of you :) Buy a mug with the metal strainer and grind your own beans, far better and cheaper than pods. I have a 600 GBP bean to cup machine sitting on my counter top which hardly gets used any more :(

iOS app for tracking blood meter readings?

You're welcome Nick, I am quite the gadget man myself. As well as a the Contour for bloods I use a device called a Qardioarm for my blood pressure which also has an app for IOS. It very satisfying when my doctor asks how I am doing with my monitoring and I can open 2 apps on my phone and show...

iOS app for tracking blood meter readings?

If you grab yourself a Contour Next One meter you can use the Contour app on IOS - When you take a reading, the results are automatically sent via bluetooth to the phone, displaying the results is very helpful to see your readings historically.

Lower blood sugar = higher blood pressure?

Hello all, I am looking for opinions here. I was diagnosed 6 months ago with type 2 and put on 1000mg Metformin twice a day. Because of some rather irritating side effects I was switched to Gliclazide about a month ago, my appetite returned and I was able to eat properly again. I regularly...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

4-5 most mornings lately, woke up to a 3.7 this morning eek! that was after a tandoori mixed grill with saag and green salad sides (no rice or bread) for dinner last night.

Greetings all from a much happier T2

Copied from another section to this more appropriate one.... Looks like this Gliclazide is going to be a little difficult to control. Tested last night before bed and 4.6 so decided, maybe unwisely to pop a glucose tablet, and woke this morning with a 3.7. This morning I have noticed vision...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Looks like this Gliclazide is going to be a little difficult to control. Tested last night before bed and 4.6 so decided, maybe unwisely to pop a glucose tablet, and woke this morning with a 3.7. This morning I have noticed vision problems like looking at a very badly pixelated screen or an 8...
