    7 a.m 5.6 back to sleep then 9a.m.6.4

I sleep very well during my 2 hour stints - I wake wide awake but do go straight back to sleep. I don't feel I am lacking in sleep as I usually have loads of energy.

    7 a.m 5.6 back to sleep then 9a.m.6.4

I took my bs before going to bed the night of the party as I thought it would be high but it was 6.9 which I reckoned was reasonable. I will take it tonight before bed and see what it is. I can't do anything about my sleeping pattern as it has been like this since menopause 13 years ago!! I...

    7 a.m 5.6 back to sleep then 9a.m.6.4

I keep a check on my Bs in the morning to see if it is time to go to the doc and ask for metformin. I have been on a low carb/low GI + exercise regime for about 10 years and so far so good but lately my numbers are over 6 in the morning - yesterday 6.6 . I was very careful what I ate yesterday...

    Type 2 Self Inflicted/Family connection.

My father had it and his father before him. At least 2 or 3 of his siblings had it and they were all slim not obese and never had been. Of my generation that I know of there is Me, my sister, and a cousin but I am not in touch with all of my cousins. Of the next generation my nephew got it in...

    Can anyone explain this please

The 6.3 was a retest as the first was 6.6! I had just opened a new tub of Freestyle lite. I never get 2 tubs giving me the same readings :( They really inaccurate and are only a guide. I do know about DP and I sleep badly. I do 2 hour sleep stints and then go to the bathroom because I am awake...

    Can anyone explain this please

This morning my fasting BS was 6.3 which was high for me although the last few months it has been hovering around 6 instead of in the 5's which I don't like. I decided to take my BS 2 hours after I started my breakfast of Muesli which I make myself from oats and seeds and other things like nuts...

    Guar Gum

I have just read an article about Guar Gum being helpful for Type 2 diabetes This glue-like substance from the seed of the guar plant contains fibres called glucomannans and galactomannans. ‘Guar gum can help slow down the amount of sugars absorbed in the stomach and intestines,’ says Prof...

Type 2 and normal HbA1c with just diet/exercise

I have controlled my Type 2 with diet and exercise ever since I was diagnosed about 10 years ago. I don't count the carbs I eat BUT I only eat low GI carbs. I managed to get a HbA1c out of the doc about 2 months ago and it was 5.8 so I am still happy with that. My fasting figures are between 5...

Foods that you thought would spike you surprisingly dont

The amazing one I seem to get away with when I am at a Japanese restaurant is Udon noodles. BTW I can't get away with malitol the sweetener they put in diabetic sweets and other products. I found that out when I bought diabetic halva!!

    A bit concerned

Update - I managed to get an HbA1C by saying to the receptionist that I don't want to waste the doctor's time but it is a year since I had my last test and would like another. She said she would ask and 3 days later I got the form which said on it HbA1C- at patients request!!!!! Anyway just got...

    A bit concerned

All interesting information here . Thanks. My sister is very slim and she gets the results of her HbA1c tomorrow so it will be interesting to see what they are after 3 months of metformin. I have always weighed more than her despite being 3 or 4 inches shorter - at the top end of the normal BMI...

    A bit concerned

I have no idea if it is IR or not. This has never been discussed!! So what medication are you on? My sister has been put on Metformin but until she tells me the result of her test this week we have no idea if it has worked for her.

    A bit concerned

Thank you Bluertit1802 that is what I wanted to know. This is why I need to know what my HbA1c is now. I popped in to the surgery this afternoon and the receptionist said she would ask a doctor if I can have an HbA1c and leave a blood test form for me tomorrow. (I had a bit of CoYO icecream...

    A bit concerned

Jack - I only eat whole fruit with a meal . It was the best piece of advice at the beginning I was ever given!! If you think there is no cause for worry yet I am not going near the doctor as I am terrified that the strips I get now on prescription will be stopped if they realise I am still...

    A bit concerned

Have just taken it again - about 45 mins since the 6.1 and I am feeling hungry for my lunch and it has gone down to 5.3 so really I reckon it is just the fasting numbers that are the problem. The tablets I take for my BP are herbal ayurvedic and fasting blood sugar problem has been going on...

    A bit concerned

I have been coping with good blood sugar readings for 10 years on low carb/low low GI diet but am becoming concerned because I am getting fasting morning readings of more than 6 now for the first time since I was diagnosed e.g. yesterday 6.7 and today 6.5. Incidentally I took my blood sugar...

I have type 2 and osteoarthritis in my fingers inherited from my mum!! My mum was correct when she told me that the pain stops after the joints have swollen up and the bone growth (knobbly joints) has finished. So basically after having the pain when the bone was growing out of shape (very hot...
