    Accu chek insight

I have been on the Accucheck Combo for four years and am due to upgrade. I have not had any real probs with the Combo so I have more or less chosen to upgrade to the Insight. The comments from Chas and iHs are reassuring. The Accucheck appears to generate a few strong complaints but I cant...

    Injecting in public

I used to do it anywhere, through my trousers, through my shirt into my stomach. I guess that would be a probelm for a lady! Thought it was normal until a friend at dinner mouthed to my wife 'does he have to do that.? Also had some comments at work which surprised me. Some people think we...

Essential info for choosing a pump

Im choosing a pump at the moment. Seems to be a lot of support for Accu-Chek Combo. Gives me more confidence as I have been on this for 4 years without using the handset functions.

    IMPORTANT: Accu-Chek Insight Pump Warning

My team have offered me this pump (and others). Have the problem above been resolved? Thanks

    choosing a new pump

Thanks Gaz. Diabetes UK did recommend INPUT but the link to Diabetes UK you gave looks like it will be very helpful. Not sure why they were not aware of this list.

    choosing a new pump

I doubt whether CGM will ever be affordable. I have not heard of the 670 but that sounds as if it might be expensive or not available very soon. Incidentally I rang Diabetes UK to get some articles from Balance to help with my choice . I was told it was too specialized for them, and that they...

    choosing a new pump

I have posted this on diabetes daily but wondered if any pumpers on here have any opinions they may wish to impart. My 4-year contract with Accu-Chek is due to end in March. I was not offered a choice when I started. I have been given three choices this time: stay with Accu-Chek Change to...

    test strips

thanks for the replies. My gp woukld like me to reduce to 6 drums in a 60 day prescribing period ie 5 a day. The benefit of regular testing is well documented but 'how many'. The letter linked by noblehead is not very specific. I fully appreciate the need to keep costs down. I believe...

    test strips

I have always had as many strips as I want, as man y as 10 a day. My control is not as good as it should be The only way I can keep my hba1c down is to take many tests with corrections if necessary. My gp is currently on an economy drive and wants me to cut my usage. How many strips do you...

    Confused about Dawn Phenomenon

My early morning bg can vary from hypo to mid teens. Not sure DP is not an urban myth. If it exist it would be due to lack of insulin. How many diabetics notice anything?

    Prescription Charges in England

all prescriptions are free for diabetics. You may find Gps refuse to prescribe or restrict if they think you dont need it ie test sticks

Stuck in a high HBA1C rut

What is your lifestyle like. Do you get plenty of exercise (eg walk to the shops instead of driving), eat a healthy diet, keep your weight down. No smoking and cut alcohol. Having said that I too found it diffcult to get my hba1c down after 25 yrs a type 1 and 4 years on a pump. Despite what...

Type 1 Insulin Dependent Diabetes and JSA

Donellysdog, saying you can do anything in the world is a bit over the top. Im pretty sure airline pilots are banned by airline regs of countries who belong. You might get a job in but you would not be allowed to fly into any other country. It would be stupid to do it anyway. What about deep...

    basal rates when clock changes

my bg has been all over the place since Sunday (lowest 2.6 highest 19). Just wondered if that was the reason.

    basal rates when clock changes

Sorry if this sounds naive but when the time on the pump is put back one hour do the hourly rates all have to be put back as well to match the new time slots? Ive never heard it talked about in training but it seems a logical reaction.

    loss of hypo symptoms

With no hypo symptons what would happen if left untreated? Would you be rendered unconcious without warning? Or would warning symptons occur before that happens? No comments about better control please.

    Stomach probs?

Apparently there is a link between diabetes and coeliac disease. If you are having a barium enema they must have already excluded that. Cant see how the pump could cause it.

what does everyone use to get cannula sticky plaster off?

Re: what does everyone use to get cannula sticky plaster off They do stick quite well as you would not want it falling off. I find no prob removing it jusy by lifting the edge with a fingernail and pulling. As regards your test sticks, ten a day is not excessive at all. As far as I am aware...

    "Black dot" in vision

I had a grey dot and it turned out to be maculopathy (retinopathy but on the macular, the focal point on the retina). You should be getting regular eye checks to spot any diabetic changes. If you are having problems getting a referral make an urgent appointment with your optician who can...
