Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

I'm coming to realize there is a possible link between salt and insulin. Its possible that insulin causes salt retention which may contribute to high blood pressure -this could help explain why someone going on the low carb diet passes so much urine in the first few days. The lower insulin...

I am a keen runner and used to pre load with carbs before running as well as jelly beans while running For the past two years I have been low carb and run without any of that rigmarole and never get a hypo as I suppose I,m running on fat Surprisingly I have done faster times in races too !!

From the Health Professional area of Sugar Nutrition UK

While researching for my 'low carb and the liver article' which is so nearly ready, and shows some great results from carb reduction in people with non alcoholic fatty liver disease I came across the following, rather surprising advice from Sugar Nutrition UK which I suspect represents sugar...

At last; a decent low-carb TV documentary!!

Certainly the idea that most fats are not nearly as bad as we thought is gaining ground in the medical world, after 30 years of low fat dogma the BMJ published a great piece on the history of low fat advice just before Christmas. Here is one of the responses...

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

I think its fair to say DUK remain nervous about low-carbing -but at least there is more talk of respecting patient choice and working with it. My hope is that blogs like these are gradually democratizing medicine so at least folk can find out what their choices are. I worry that a lot of health...

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

Just today I submitted the low carb and the liver study It has taken two years and an hour every day for the past six months so I need a breather for a while before I start a new thing ! The point about diagnosing someone as pre-diabetic it that it brings with it a good chance ,a hope of not...

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

Drilling down into our data The average reduction in HbA1c if we just take those with a starting result of >47 mmol/mol the T2DM, was 16 mmol/mol this is better than would be expected from the best drug we have -metformin And as an average I was pleased with it. I have preliminary interest...

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

Sorry Douglas that was sloppy late night responding With the advent of HbA1c most doctors have just about stopped doing GGTs By sorted I should have explained that patients with previously diabetic results >47 mmol/ mol ended up with normal or pre-diabetic results The average dropped from 52.4...

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

Good point Prof Roy Taylor of Newcastle University makes another. He noticed that many folk have abnormal liver function tests, notably GGT levels for years before diabetes itself becomes evident He says there is a 'long silent scream' from the liver before we become diabetic. It's important to...

At last; a decent low-carb TV documentary!!

I thought it could be a good intro to the subject . It's evidence that things really are moving towards more acceptance of this as a valid dietary choice - the stuff on running of interest to me as I have noticed I run well on this diet .
