I would try and repeat. Maybe tomorrow night, do the same thing. If elevated BG levels still, tell him to see his doc. Hope this was just a one off. Take care :-) Mo

Hi Mark, there is a version of Metformin called SR ( slow release ) which many here have found much kinder on the stomach. Ask your doc.

    Holiday Trip

I use Frio Bags. You can get them direct from the manufacturers site or Amazon do them. I've seen them in a few Boots' shops too. They are very handy when takin insulin to warmer climates and can be used again and again.

    When to test Glucose levels

Probably before eating and 2 hrs after eating. This tells you what foods you tolerate and what foods to avoid/reduce.

If monitor/strips are +/- 15% out - does this not make a mokery of even testing...

Another way of looking at the meters is that they are 80% accurate at a minimum which sounds a little better lol ! For home testing purposes, they do the job :-)

So Suprised at what My Glucose Levels should be!

Apologies for more rain on your parade but the others are quite right. Those levels may be fantastic to your doc but nobody here would be happy to run with them long term. Sorry. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Amazing offer???

Never hurts to ask. Although a lot are deprived of test strips, there are some that have been prescribed them. Explain to your doc exactly why you want them, to test which foods you tolerate and which to avoid and to help prevent any possible long term complications. Sent from the Diabetes...

    Amazing offer???

Quite a large proportion of T2 diabetics who are not on insulin. I don't have numbers but there are many forum members who have to self fund their own BG testing equipment.

    Slow release metformin advice

That's odd that your doc prescribed you medication but doesn't know how you should take it ? I would still take them morning and evening with food personally.

    Gave up smoking,blood sugar low.

That's a tough one. I quit nearly 5 years ago and I did put on a little weight to be honest. Having said that, I'd rather gain a few pounds and be smoke free. I would possibly take this opportunity to start some regular exercise, even walking is good. Have some healthy snacks in the house for...

As Indy says, well done for quitting and those BG levels are nothing to worry about.

Post-meal high blood sugars - how to beat?

As Dave says, not much point in testing 30-60mins after eating as the insulin will not have had time to work. Having said that, readings of 14-18 seem very high. What are pre-meal readings and what sort of foods do you eat ? Sent from the Diabetes Forum App
