Turning 26 this year but not sure when is best to have a baby!

Hi Allana, Diabetic or not, I don't think there is a best time to have a baby! I'm 31 and am currently 22 weeks pregnant. My husband and I have been married for a couple of years, and have owned our own house for about eight years. We spoke for a while about trying but, if I'm brig honest, we...

    Changing hospital during pregnancy

I will be moving mid way through my pregnancy, so have similar concerns. My husband and I are moving from surrey to Newcastle, so we will definitely need to move hospitals. We are currently waiting on solicitors to get a completion date but it looks like we will be moving in April, when I will...

    Background retinopathy

Hi Ellen, Like you, I have also been told I have background retinopathy. I have been diabetic for almost thirty years now, so I've been told it's not that uncommon to have some changes to the eye after this amount of time. Like others have said, the retinopathy may disappear, and if you keep...

    Please help

Hi @Kjh2015. I am also type 1, though I've had it for over 25 years now. I'm five weeks pregnant, also. Very excited but a bit scared, too! Let your doctor know ASAP that you're pregnant. Mine has booked me an appointment with a midwife for mid January, when I'll be around nine weeks. The...

    Type 1 and pregnant!

Congratulations, @Charlottelucy44! I'm also type 1 and have just found out that I am pregnant. I have been testing much more than usual since I saw the positive test result. I was up about fifteen minutes ago feeling a little sick. Wasn't sure if it was early morning sickness or something else...

Just found out I am pregnant

Hi @azure, Thanks! Still seems a bit surreal but super excited :) The GP practice that I am registered with has two in-house diabetes consultants, as well as a diabetes specialist nurse. I get referred to the hospital etc for my retinal screenings but the majority of my diabetes care is...

Just found out I am pregnant

As the title says, my husband and I have just found out that we are pregnant. Very early stages - about four weeks. We are both over the moon as we have been trying for some time. I have to be honest, though, I'm a little scared. Good scared, but scared all the same! :) I will be calling my...

How many people here are Coeliacs as well?

I have type 1 diabetes and coeliacs. Diagnosed with the diabetes aged four, and the coeliacs a couple of years later. It's a lot easier now than it was when I was first diagnosed. Good selection of gluten free foods in the supermarkets, and many restaurants now offer gluten free menus :)

Newly diagnosed type 1 and driving

As long as you haven't been advised by your doctors that you shouldn't be drive then you are fine to carry on. Being s type 1, you should test before you get behind the wheel of the car. If your sugars are under four, you shouldn't drive. If they are below five, you should have something to...

    Resting heart rate

Hi Runner2009. Really helpful, thanks. My HR does rise when I exercise, as you'd expect. It does recover quickly, though. I have been working with a personal trainer for the past few months. As I am diabetic, he had asked me to get the green light from my GP before starting, which I did. For me...

    Resting heart rate

Shar67 - I didn't know that about the neuropathic problems, so thanks. Thankfully, I've been given the all clear from any diabetic complications so that shouldn't be a concern. I knew that stopping suddenly could cause problems but I'm not planning to do that - not planning to go crazy but I...

    Resting heart rate

I've been on a bit of a fitness blitz recently and have been working hard to lose some pounds, tone up, and generally improve my levels of fitness. I've always been fairly active, but just wanted to push myself that bit further. Anyway, I was just wondering what people's resting heart rate...

    Stress

Hi Hilary, Sorry to hear that you're under a lot of stress at the minute. I know the feeling all too well! My sugars can be very erratic when I am stressed. Often because I don't eat at regular times but it does sometimes feel like I need extra insulin at times. Hope the stress subsides...

    Trying to conceive

Thanks, Azure. I'm hoping that I will be able to continue in my current role, albeit with a few tweaks so that I'm not travelling so much. If that's not possible, I'll cross that bridge as and when I get there. If I have a good excuse to avoid the gym then I will grab it with both hands...

    I'm quitting insulin tomorrow

I'm sorry if I sound harsh here but have you even stopped for a minute to think what this will do to your friends? Or your family? My mum took her life when I was a child. Left a note. It was, without a doubt, the hardest thing that I have ever had to live with. You are here announcing to the...

    Slimming world and Type 1

Good luck! I actually joined a few months ago. I had a stone that I wanted to lose and really needed the pressure of a weekly weigh in to keep me on track! It's an easy diet to keep up and it honestly hadn't felt like a diet. I've actually lost a stone and half now, which I am thrilled about...

    A couple of questions.

As for your question about the lumps... It can sometimes mean that your insulin is absorbed at a different rate than usual. More the case if you repeatedly inject in that site. If you notice a lump, avoid injecting in the area for a little while and you should be fine. A little extra testing...

    A couple of questions.

As a diabetic, you need to take good car if your feet. Of course, we all get blisters every now and then - usually can't be helped! If you're getting them all the time, though, I'd suggest you go to a good sports store and get some better shoes and cushioned socks. I run a lot and very rarely...
