Insulin resistance reversal on Newcastle Diet

Thank you all for your very helpful replies. Does anyone have a link to the original research paper from Prof Roy Taylor (I presume he will have set out his reasons for hypothesising that an 800 kcal a day diet would work) ? I've tried googling for it but can't find the research paper, just...

Insulin resistance reversal on Newcastle Diet

Can anyone explain in simple terms how the Newcastle Diet reverses insulin resistance. Some of what I've read seems to be contradictory but I'm obviously missing something : 1. The idea is to try and mimic what happens with bariatric surgery (which evidence shows does reverse insulin...

Reversing T2 Diabetes diet (Prof Taylor Newcastle)

Congratulations.. sounds like you have done really well with the Newcastle diet and with only 4 weeks on it rather than the 8 weeks. I am going to give the Dr Mosley Blood Sugar Diet a try. I've been doing LCHF for a few months but think a sharp burst on v low calorie might help get me over...

    Type 2 peripheral neuropathy

Hi, I am only prediabetic, but was having trouble with neuropathy. After lots of research and trials over the last 5 months, I have found what seems to work for me: 1. Keeping blood sugar in the 'normal' range as defined by Dr Bernstein in his book The Diabetes Solution. This is a much lower...

Prediabetes Is carb intolerance temporary on LCHF ?

Thanks for clarifying this. I guess in my case at 35-50g carbs it must be Last meal effect. I'm still experimenting at the moment, taking it slowly and watching the Freestyle Libre very closely !

Prediabetes Is carb intolerance temporary on LCHF ?

Thanks for all your replies. Think I'll go with a steady introduction of a few more carbs while I've got the Freestyle Libre to monitor closely. Will also start some more structured exercise ! Still confused about the 'physiological insulin resistance' vs the 'last meal effect'. Can anyone...

Prediabetes Is carb intolerance temporary on LCHF ?

I'm trying to increase my carbs slightly after being on LCHF (35-50g) for about 5 months (don't need to lose any more weight, just want to keep blood sugar low). I'm finding that my blood sugar spikes when I introduce new foods (monitoring with Freestyle Libre at moment). Just wondering...

    FREESTYLE LIBRE RECORDING FAULTY

The sensor stores up to 8 hours of data. It only ever keeps the most recent data (up to 8 hours worth) and anything older just drops off and is lost forever. Hence you need to scan the sensor at least every 8 hours and get the data transferred onto the reader otherwise it will be lost...

    FREESTYLE LIBRE RECORDING FAULTY

I think that the sensor keeps reading but can only store 8 hours of data. When you scan it the data transfers to the reader which you then attach to computer. If you leave the sensor 'unscanned' for say 12 hours, then hours 1 to 4 of data will be lost as the sensor can only store 8 hours worth...

    FREESTYLE LIBRE RECORDING FAULTY

Had you left the sensor 'unscanned' for more than 8 hours by any chance ? Mine gave a missed few hours the other day and I realised I hadn't scanned it from about 6:30 at night until about 5 am. It had therefore 'lost' the period from 6:30 until 9pm but still had the 8 hours leading up to 5am...

Prediabetes Does Newcastle diet 'cure' diabetes or just control it ?

Hi @Bluetit1802 , So it sounds like you mean people tend to get less sensitive to carbs after being on LCHF for a longer period ? I didn't realise that was likely to happen. I thought the LCHF was a way of controlling blood sugar rather than helping with the underlying condition. That is...

Prediabetes Does Newcastle diet 'cure' diabetes or just control it ?

I have been on LCHF for about 5 months now (about 35-50g carbs). The aim was to bring blood sugar down in order to help neuropathy symptoms. This has worked pretty well. I don't need to lose any more weight, just want to keep blood sugar low and stable. I'd like to increase my carbs a bit...

Would Carbs 45-70 cause keto flu ?

Thanks for your suggestion @Resurgam about the Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution. I've been reading some of it and it gives a clear explanation of how to increase carbs and the effect on fat burning etc. Fingers crossed I can find a way of increasing carbs without my blood sugar increasing.

Would Carbs 45-70 cause keto flu ?

Thanks again for all your ideas. My aim is to keep blood sugar down but I don't need to lose any more weight and would prefer to add some fruit and increase carbs a bit. I'll give it a go !

Would Carbs 45-70 cause keto flu ?

I have been on LCHF for about 4 months now at about 30-45g carbs. I've lost a few pounds and brought blood sugar down which has helped my neuropathy. Now I'd like to increase carbs a bit to say 45-70g (eg to add some berries). I'm worried that this might cause me to go in and out of ketosis...

Prediabetes Does high fat food lower Blood Glucose ?

Thank you all for taking the time to respond with such excellent info. At least I now understand there is nothing magical about saturated fats and can focus on getting my fat as much from nuts and avocados and olive oil etc as possible. I'm on about 40-50g carbs at the moment. (I do enjoy the...

Prediabetes Does high fat food lower Blood Glucose ?

Thanks for your posts. Very interesting charts... does this mean that adding the fat to a meal helps reduce spikes ? Does this have to be saturated fat though ? Is the reason for not eating 'low fat' products (eg low fat yoghurt) just that they are likely to be higher in carbs or is there...

    Vitamins & Supplements

@Juicetin, Glad to hear the r-ala is still helping your neuropathy. I've been taking it for about 4 weeks now (100mg three times per day) and I'm convinced it is helping my neuropathy also. It has also helped bring my FBG down (as per Dr Bernstein who says it reduces blood sugar in some...

Prediabetes Does high fat food lower Blood Glucose ?

I've been on LCHF for about 3 months now and I'm feeling positive about it. However I still don't really understand the fat part. I understand that you need to increase fat intake to make up the calories you aren't getting from carbs but: a) If its purely to make up the calories, does the fat...
