Do you have HS - hidradenetis suppravita?

Yep, I have HS too and type1. Mine is always worse when my blood sugars are high for extended periods, so reducing your levels is definitely a good thing to do and obviously not just for your HS. There are loads of threads with info on the forum on ways to reduce your blood sugars and lots of...

lost the plot for 2 days over xmas made a big diffrence to bs

Thanks. I'm not on any meds other than my usual ones but yes I carb count - I'm back to 'normal' now but at the time I was doing correction doses and my levels were still not coming down... I need to get my head around the 'sick day rules'. Hey ho, illness is never a predictable thing with...

What was your favourite moment of 2013?

Apart from becoming an aunt, I think my best moment was meeting my new diabetes specialist nurse... bit of a boring one maybe, but she is revolutionising my life and I cannot thank her enough. She's simply amazing! :p

lost the plot for 2 days over xmas made a big diffrence to bs

I know some people say 'why put yourself through high blood sugars and the negative health effects for a few days of enjoyment?' .... well I say a few days of enjoyment and letting yourself go is a GOOD thing for your overall well-being and sanity. It must be hard to get back on track now but...

Sugar levels too high - help!?!

When you have a hypo, at some point in the next 24hours your liver will 'dump' its store of glucose and rebuild up its supply and that means your blood sugar level will rise - we're not supposed to give any correction doses of insulin in the 24hours following a hypo for this reason as it may not...

    Halloween Screamers!

Gaah, I've been diagnosed T1 for 20 years and started out using old-style syringes... that picture of the needle compared to the new screw-on microfine type is terrifying!!

    Flu Jab

When I saw the nurse a week or so after my flu jab she asked if I'd had any problems, as the previous year's jabs had made some diabetics' blood sugars rise. I didn't personally have an issue but it is apparently a known phenomenon. I don't know anything apart from that though, sorry.

insulin can be kept out of the fridge for about 4 weeks as long as it doesn't get above 25degC. Do you think the room got above 25deg?

Portrayal of diabetes in the media

There's a storyline on Eastenders at the moment, just starting out I think. A character has got kidney problems due to diabetes and needs a kidney transplant. I don't know how accurate the story is as I haven't really been watching it - I just caught a snippet of it the other day. But it's...

    Daily aspirin

I was prescribed a daily dose of 70mg aspirin a few years back when I had a heart attack but also had to be prescribed a med for my stomach so that it didn't get irritated and lead to problems because of the aspirin. you shouldn't just start taking something without consulting your doctor! I...

T1 and low carb diet ?

You do really need to be on the dose-adjustment regime rather than having a set amount of mixed insulin each day. Do you carb-count and adjust your fast-acting insulin accordingly? If so, then like the others said, just adjust your insulin dose according to how many carbs you eat with a bit of...

    Insulin Resistance v Insulin Deficiency

I'm not entirely sure I can be of any help with sharing information on these, but i can definitely share my experiences of them. I've had T1 since I was 11 (now 31). I developed polycystic ovarian syndrome in my early teen years and that showed itself in a number of unpleasant ways. I do not...

Off to see my DSN this afternoon.

I'm not sure whether you wanted advice on what to say to your DSN or advice on how to tackle your diabetes problems.... So, I'm hoping it's the latter because it's now 4pm and you didn't get any replies before this. Being honest with your Dr / DSN is always a good place to start because if...

    Stress - T1

Yep, stress can do it.... all sorts of things can affect your sugar levels - the weather/heat, tiredness, stress, monthly cycle for women.... sometimes diabetes can be a bit 'hit and miss' because no matter how well controlled you are, things like a hot sunny day can send you in the wrong...

    Nocturnal sweats. Causes?

I'm not sure of the medical explanation but it does happen to quite a few diabetics. If it's a new thing that's happening though it might be an idea to mention it to your doctor as there are various causes that could require more attention. :)
