Why won't you take statins? Lots of rubbish spouted against them. I'm on a low dose with absolutely no side effects. Furthermore they reduce inflamation as well, which is medically quite beneficial.

    New HBA1C

Yes, I know BMI is a bit of a blunt instrument. I did have a lot more muscle when I was kitesurfing more but since I've really stopped I've lost a lot of it and though my 'spare tyre' is much smaller than it was, I still have a little one. All my surplus fat is central, which I now realise is a...

    New HBA1C

Thanks :) Lockdown means that its easy to adhere to Keto. Presumably I won't see a reduction until I lose more weight? My BMI is about 25.5 now so I am overweight and need to lose more, but it is getting progressively harder.

    New HBA1C

So I've just had my bloods redone and HB has come down from 43 to 41. I have lost 15kg in the last year and now exercise quite regularly, normally 180+ mins of intense exercise per week. I do keto quite strictly, except on days when I do bike rides, I just can't survive doing a 3 hr ride with...

    Merry Christmas everyone!

Interesting that alcohol keeps a lid on BS levels! I did have some keto cake with some decidedly non-Keto custard and that took my BS quite high - about 8-8.5 and was elevated for about 4 hours. Not good. Definitely prediabetic.

    Merry Christmas everyone!

Well I'm not going to lie. I've broken all the rules! Had loads of carbs... And sugar and bad stuff. But it's for a couple of weeks and I'll be back on keto in January, and have also started doing a 12 week cycle training program on Zwift.

    Libre 2.0 update

Probably parsnips? Quite high in carbs. Also I think you have a greater BS response if you're on a low carb diet than if you have regular frequent amounts of carbs.

    Libre 2.0 update

Well I had 2x corona last night and there wasn't an immediate reaction on my BG levels, but my overall BG today, is somewhat higher than it was yesterday (that could also be because I had a long cycle on Sunday which lead to reduced BG on Monday, but will be interesting to see what happens...

    Libre 2.0 update

Very interesting. I'm just about to have a corona (beer) to see what the effect is. Yeah - I have to say that the seeing the effect of foods is very interesting indeed. For some reason, when I applied this particular Libre, it hurt like a b(*$£%& and now there is a huge blue bruise in the...

    Libre 2.0 update

Interesting - is this also the case with beer? (which is carby as I understand)? Of course I don't cycle drunk - its hazardous enough sober in the UK!!!

    Libre 2.0 update

No, this is not the second model of the Libre - it is my second go of using a Libre. I am prediabetic and are using the Libre to work out what types of food and drink are having significant impact on BG levels.

    Libre 2.0 update

So I've just got another couple of Libre's to try out and do a bit of experimenting with and have noticed a few quite interesting things so far. - Still having gels on cycles as I just can't do the full distance fasted - these do appear to have a significant effect on my BG levels. Need to find...

    A six-month update

When you say 100g carbs, do you mean 100grams per day? If so, this is not low carb. Low carb is under 20-30 grams per day.

    Carb confused

Turkey bacon? Are you in the USA by any chance? I find food over there such a surprise - you get such amazing vegetables and meat, so I don't understand why folks eat so much processed stuff.

    Shocked

This is very interesting. I just calculated my ratio based on trig of 1.1 / HDL of 1.5 and I get a ratio of 1.7 which is supposedly optimal... This can't be right given my HBA1C (42). Perhaps this is skewed because I am on statins?

I find fasted exercise works very well. No impact on performance, though I can't do as long as I can when re-fueling... yet.

You don't need the starter kit, just the sensor and an app on your phone. https://www.freestylelibre.co.uk/libre/products/sensors.html

The Libre, which costs £50 lasts for 14 days. Not that long but you will see some patterns and get an idea of what's going on. You may want to get a couple to give you a bit longer (I'll get another in a few weeks) but 14 days is enough for you to see the effect of what you're eating, exercise...

    Shocked

Looks like you're doing all the right things. Bear in mind that it takes time to see the effects of what you're doing. Diabetes develops slowly and reversing it is not likely to happen over night. Folks often think that low GI carbs are ok, but in my experience, having monitored myself with a...

What happened when you went on Keto?

Hopefully this is the right forum... What happened to your HBA1Cs when you went on Keto? Did they drop to the low 30s fairly swiftly?
