Help needed for a diabetic birthday cake

Welcome to the forum. Hopefully there are some members into baking. You could use Splenda instead of sugar, Splenda has only 0.5 gm carb per teaspoon. Sugar free jams sometimes have polyols in them which can have unfortunate effects on the tummy ! A normal cake would not do much harm...

    Nurse & Low Carb Diet

Patch, I am a low carber, have been for 3 years and still on no medication. If by dissecting your post you mean me answering within your post it saves me scrolling back and forth to remember the salient points. I agreed with you on most points, just put in a defence for my fellow HCP's that's...

The soles of my feet hurt

Welcome to the forum, Mylife.  I would see a podiatrist if I were you to check for such things as plantar fasciitis, gout, fallen arches etc. You can get the doctor to refer you or, in some areas , you can self refer. Your nurse is not an expert on feet, podiatrists are.

    Pre-diabetes & 'mild' T2 diabetes?

The reason the term 'mild' diabetes is frowned upon in medical circles is that Type 2 used to be thought of as a mild form of diabetes as compared to Type 1. However they eventually came to realise that Type 2's get just as many complications, if uncontrolled, as Type 1's can get, if...

Moves to cut Tobacco and Alcohol consumption

Once again the Government are being hypocritical about smoking and drinking. If they really cared then they could just simply ban the sales of alcohol and tobacco (However we all know how the Volstead Act ended up !) What they are doing is putting up taxes yet again, raising more money for the...

    Type 2 + Weight

Hi and welcome to the forum. If you are overweight this usually means that you are Insulin resistant. The body keeps making more Insulin to cope and in turn, this piles on more fat. Carbs = Glucose = Insulin = Fat. © Ken.2010 Therefore, if you break the chain by reducing Carbohydrate in your...

    Trying to lower Numbers

Hi Virginia, Beta blockers, Pregabalin and Atorvastatin can all affect your blood sugars. You should discuss this with your doctor as obviously you need these drugs but the fact they affect your blood sugar control should also be taken into consideration. There may be altenatives to these, but...

    Trying to lower Numbers

Hi Virginia, do you get high readings after eating baked beans and bread ? Some can eat these some can't. The only sure way is to test. Apples and pears are higher in carbs than softer fruit, which I prefer, I do like an apple and cheese for breakfast though. How do you stew your fruit ? It...

    Question??

You only get glucose in the urine when your blood sugar levels are round about 12 mmol/L or above. When are you testing your blood sugars ? If you only test before meals then you will miss the higher numbers that can occur after eating. Testing two hours after a meal will show you just how the...

    Do I really have diabetes

You need to get a second ( doctor's) opinion if you do not get a definitive answer from your GP. Porridge is a slow acting carb which could have still been raising your blood glucose after two hours, with some foods you have to check three and even four hours after to check properly.

    Drugs not available

Re: Drugs not availabe Contact your doctor to find out why this is being withdrawn. There may be some reason for it or if it is purely cost : Naftidrofuryl (Non-proprietary) Prescription-only medicine Capsules, naftidrofuryl oxalate 100 mg, net price 84-cap pack = £5.30. Label: 25, 27 This...

    Do I really have diabetes

Welcome to the Forum, unfortunately no one on here can tell you if you are diabetic...only the doctor can say for sure. You need to go back and clarify as the doctor and nurse seem to be at odds with each other ! Your cholesterol level is high and if you need a statin then make sure you ask for...
