Weight loss and gall bladder issues

Hey all. I'm doing keto for T2, and my wife is also doing it with mer for weight loss and health reasons. My wife has recently started having issues which appears to be gall stones, although she has an ultrasound scheduled in a few weeks to confirm. By the numbers, she's been doing keto for I...

    Breaking a fast

I ended up breaking my fast at... I think 46 hours. I broke it with normal (ie low carb) eating, and so far so good. It was easier than I expected. This is my first fast beyond 36 hours. I only broke it because I received a shipment of pork rinds, and I couldn't wait to try them. Thanks...

What do you guys carb count?

I think it all depends on what you're trying to do by counting. I'm trying to follow a keto way of eating, so it may be different from what you're trying to do. So for me, I don't always track my eating but when I do, "count" net carbs. Typically that's total carbs minus fibre for everything...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

What have I eaten today? Black coffee and that's all. I'm 40 hours into a 36 hour fast, and I don't know when I'm going to break it as I feel pretty good. I have ordered pork rinds in various flavours, and it's due to arrive today so I'm pretty sure I'll break my fast if/when they arrive. Or...

    Breaking a fast

I know the advice to break a "longer" fast gently, and am prepared to do so if needed. The background here is I have done a variety of fasts over the last few months ranging between 16 hours (barely fasting at all) up to about 36 hours (skip a day). I have never given a second thought to how...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Two fried eggs and an avocado for break. Skipped lunch and planning chicken and Caesar salad for dinner. It's a bit earlier here in Canada than the UK.

    BBQ pork ribs

3 hours at low heat with a dry rub on it usually in a smoker, but I've done grill or even the oven. Then 2 hours wrapped well in aluminum foil, usually with a small amount of liquid added. Finally one hour unwrapped on the grill to get a nice char and/or baste with sauce.

    Easy low carb breakfast ideas?

There really isn't much easier or faster than eggs. When I'm not skipping breakfast, it's fried eggs or cheese omelette. Bacon on the side if I have the time to cook it. But eggs cook in a hot pan in about 3 minutes.

    BBQ pork ribs

For ribs, I feel the method is more important than the "recipe". I believe in the 3-2-1 method for side ribs, and I usually do something like 3-1-1 for back ribs. I prefer dry-rub over sauce anyway , and don't put any sugar in my rub. Good luck. Hope they are awesome.

    Help! Is this low carb?!

Interesting...in Canada, that would be not too bad. Our labels here include fibre, and many non-nutritive sweeteners in the carb totals, so those bagels would be about 10g carbs after subtracting the fibre.

    Bread worse than cake?

A couple of thoughts: 1) It could be that the second "cheat" had more impact because it was the second one, and it would not have mattered which one of those items was eaten secondly. In other words, some residual effects from the cake, plus the bread lead to a bigger spike than the cake. 2)...

Recently Diagnosed - A few Questions

Hey. Before my diagnosis, I felt all kinds of unwell that even after diagnosis I never connected to my BG levels. It's only since I got things under control that I connected the dots. For me I wouldn't say it was shakiness, but I used to get a feeling that I associated with stress in my...

    Conflicting advice

FWIW, when I was first diagnosed (several years ago), my doc was spouting all the old-school advice, and was very dismissive of aggressive dietary treatments when I raised them. Early this year after a lot of research, I decided to go full keto with some IF thrown in. I was apprehensive...

    LOW CARB SUCCESS STORIES

Hey all. I'm going to share not one, but 3 success stories with you all. Me: I've been T2D for... 7 years? I've been off and on various ways of eating, and I can tell you this. When I did low-ish carb paleo early in my diagnosis, I was able to stave off the need for medications at all...

When do you see carb meals on the meter?

So yesterday I had a fast-food meal for lunch. This was planned so I feel no guilt, but to se what impact it would have, I did a 2 hour post-prandial glucose reading. At 2 hours, I had a reading of 5.3 mol/l. This was pretty encouraging since it basically suggests my body handled the carbs...

some ideas for the shopping basket

Bacon and eggs are the two things we simply could not do without in our house, and we buy at least 2kg and 3 dozen eggs every week. If they run short here, we are in some real trouble. As for ideas, I made cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped meatballs last night. The flavour was great but the meat...

    Multivitamins Advice

To be frank, I have not done a lot of reading on this in a long time, but my overall impression is that multi-vitamins don't really have enough of anything to make a difference unless you are critically deficient in something. So they don't really provide enough of anything to be...

Breakdown of Italy’s figures (edited title)

The co-morbidities in Italy are darn near I'm possible to pull apart and analyze. There's no way to know what was causal and what was not. There's no way to know how much triage bias inflated the mortality rates for co-morbidities. At the end of the day, Italy is a complete disaster, and a...

    HbA1c

Dietary control of T2 is fraught with "slippery slopes". It's not easy being vigilant and disciplined all the time, and I have nothing but respect and admiration for those who can do it, and empathy and support for those who struggle, as I do. You got this.

    Looking For Pork Belly suggestions

For anyone interested, here's what I did. The pork belly I bought was pre-cut into strips about 4cm wide, and sadly there was no skin. I used salt and spices on the sides and bottom, and for the fat cap scored it and used salt only. 45 minutes in the oven at a high temp (500f) and then abut...
