    Doing the Newcastle

I have read quite a bit of Prof Taylors stuff including the twin cycle hypothesis. Dr Fung apparently concurs with Prof Taylors finding on removing the 1g of fat from the pancreas (I'm looking forward to seeing the DIRECT study results on correlation between the pancreatic fat and successful...

Causal relationship between insulin resistance and vit D deficiency ?

There seems to be quite a lot of evidence that many people with insulin resistance are deficient in vitamin D. I think its accepted that there is a correlation (sorry I don't have links its just my impression from reading stuff). However the research I've seen looking at whether vitamin D...

Does LCHF 'clear out' pancreatic fat ?

Thanks @Brunneria I haven't read all the links yet but it looks like the scientific data is not conclusive.

Does LCHF 'clear out' pancreatic fat ?

Thanks for all your responses. Just to clarify further what I'm getting at. Suppose an experiment were done in which four cohorts of comparable subjects all lost 15kg of weight but by different diets: 1. Newcastle diet with shakes 2. Michael Mosley blood sugar diet (low calorie with real...

Does LCHF 'clear out' pancreatic fat ?

Prof Roy Taylor's in his twin cycle hypothesis suggests that getting rid of pancreatic fat is key to remission for T2D. This theory also appears to be supported by Dr Jason Fung https://idmprogram.com/fatty-pancreas-t2d-9// So what is the best way of clearing out the pancreatic fat ? LCHF...

Prof Roy Taylor hypothesis - DIRECT study & pancreatic fat

Just found this article by Dr Fung. I had not realised that he is fully in accord with Prof Taylor's thinking on pancreatic fat being the problem. He just has a different way of getting rid of the pancreatic fat, ie Intermittent Fasting rather than the Newcastle Diet...

Prof Roy Taylor hypothesis - DIRECT study & pancreatic fat

Thanks @Biggles2 itll be really interesting to see whether the results support the pancreatic fat theory !

Prof Roy Taylor hypothesis - DIRECT study & pancreatic fat

The recent results of the DIRECT study show correlation between how much weight the participants lost and the percentage who have gone into 'remission' (86% in those who lost 15kg or more, 57% in those who lost 10-15kg and 34% in those who lost 5-10kg). Does the study also look at the fat...

    symptoms for pre-diabetes

Cold feet which then progressed to painful feet when walking (like walking with stones in shoes). This was put down to vitamin D deficiency and then diagnosed as mild neuropathy. Having brought blood sugar down to 'normal' levels the symptoms have largely resolved but do resurface if I go...

    Newcastle diet.

Hi @Fleegie, Very well done for completing the Newcastly diet so well with such strict adherence. You've got terrific results on weight and your between meal blood glucose levels. Regarding the response to foods, you may be interested to look at the graphs for non-diabetics in a couple of...

Does an OGTT help improve carb tolerance ?

Well done ! I finished my 8 weeks of low cal at end of September. No trouble maintaining weight so far on lowish carbs and mainly meditteranean style fats plus just creamy coffee for breakfast.

Does an OGTT help improve carb tolerance ?

Thanks @fleegie. I'll probably give it a go in a week or so. I'm trying to hedge my bets and get the best of all diet options by doing the Newcastle/Blood sugar diet for 8 weeks to get rid of pancreatic fat and then switching back to lowish carbs for long term maintenance.

Does an OGTT help improve carb tolerance ?

I have read a couple of posts that seem to suggest an OGTT has helped improve tolerance to carbs after being either on a very low calorie (eg Newcastle) diet or on very low carbs. I've done a 'sort of' Newcastle diet but with real food (and a few extra cals (1100-1200). Lost weight so BMI...

Is there any real difference between LCHF and Keto?

Hi @Robbity, I've been lowish carbing for about 6 months (about 35-60g carbs). I don't really understand what being 'fat adapted' means as opposed to just being low enough carbs to be in ketosis. Can you point me at a simple explanation please ?

There was a thread a few months ago titled "Help in dealing with Neuropathy" which has a lot of information. In particular there is a great post by @Omnipod who had done a lot of research. Well worth a read. See link in next post. This takes you to the thread. The post by omnnipod is on page 1.

What does a 'Freestyle Libre' graph look like for a non-diabetic

Thanks for all your responses. @CherryAA your friend does indeed keep very level throughout the 24 hours apart from the sugar spike. I'm also really interested in your graph @kokhongw. Looks like you go lower overnight and also quite a dip at 7pm prior to dinner. Would that be caused by...

What does a 'Freestyle Libre' graph look like for a non-diabetic

I've seen lots of graphs showing 'normal' response to meals etc., but just wondering how much variation in BG a non-diabetic person would see throughout a 24 hour period. For example: Does the BG level run lower throughout the night and by how much What happens during the 'waking up' and...
