    Type 2 on basal insulin

I have been low carbing for 3 years (generally under 25 carbs daily). It’s certainly cut my dose of insulin down! But before my evening meal, I was 4.6 mmol, I had approx 15 carbs and 500 calories, but 4.5 hours later I was still 6.8 but this morning back to 4.6. Am I eating too many carbs at...

    Travelling With Insulin

I have to take 4 months’ worth of insulin on a long haul flight and with travel from home, I won’t be able to refrigerate for about 32 hours. Does anyone know whether Singapore Airlines will refrigerate for me during the flight, or would the insulin be ok just in hand luggage? Thank you.

    Testing strips

My meter has died and I have unused testing strips which are now not needed as my surgery has switched me over to a different make. Can I sell these on eBay - is it ethical to do so? In a quandary as the cash would be useful but I feel uncomfortable about it.

    Stevia

Has anyone had issues with Stevia raising their BG levels? I'm pretty tightly controlled on 20-30g carbs daily but with friends coming for dinner tonight, I tried making a trial crumble using ground almonds, butter and stevia, and also used stevia to sweeten the rhubarb. I didn't find the...

    Ketostix

Hi, I've been low carbing successfully for 9 months now. BG reading averaging around 5.8, managed to reduce meds, so now only on 16 units Lantus and 1 X Forxiga daily. Great improvement. I thought it might be helpful to see if I was achieving ketosis to aid weight loss so have bought some...

    Neuropathy - advice please

I've been low carbing (under 40g daily) for over six months but am dismayed to find neuropathy is steadily marching upwards from my toes, now at ankle level in places. I had thought keeping my BG levels at an acceptable level (43 and 46 on the last two hba1c tests), would have helped but it...

Type 2 - new to bolus

Hi I've been using Lantus with good results due to low carbing, but just occasionally it would be nice to be able to eat the same as everyone else! We are being treated to an afternoon tea by our son, so that was why I asked my DN if bolus would be the way to go to deal with that situation...

    Ideas anyone?

I'm on 18 units Lantus and 1 X Forxiga daily and have been happily in the range 5-6.5 for a few months with my 14 day average at 5.8. The past few days, I haven't been below 6.2 and I thought I would see what happens one hour after breakfast. I had my normal natural full fat Greek yoghurt with...

Why is this happening - anyone know?

I had quite good control (though not in your league @KevinPotts) until a couple of weeks ago when I had a night off to celebrate our 40th WA, and still didn't go mad. Now, I seem to be coming in much higher. Still within target range, but at the upper end. Example was this morning - before...

    Any ideas please?

Hi I checked my blood at 1800 and I was 5.6, 2 hours after last food, and although I haven't eaten since and only drink peppermint tea my reading at 2300 was 6.8! Been back over food consumption today and do not recognise any food which might do this. For lunch we had a BBQ - hickory smoked...

    Thank you

To everyone who has answered my questions and helped me find my way. I have now, with the cognisance of my diabetic nurse, dropped all four Glicazide and am now just taking 1 X 10mg Forxiga and 18 units of Lantus once daily. This is a huge step forward for me and I am looking forward to...

Should I have missed out my tablets after 24 hours without food.

I had some sort of noxious bug in my system and was sick and dizzy, felt dreadful and couldn't eat. I did have my Forxiga and Glibencamide yesterday morning I was 6.5 yesterday morning, couldn't face testing later so it was 4pm before I did again and was down to 4.9. I inject my basal Lantus...

    Testing after meals

I am finding that if I test after two hours might BG is often a bit high, whereas after three hours I am back within target range. Does this matter? Doc says no, but I would like to be reassured by your expertise fellow diabetics. Just like to say this forum has transformed the way I feel and...

    Lantus + Gliclazide

I recently switched having my Lantus to 6pm as it was running out of steam and couldn't cope with the dawn phenomenon when I had it in the morning. I have also reduced my carb intake to between 50 and 75g per day. I am getting great control during the day, between 5 and 7, but my bedtime...

    Low carb wraps

Does anyone know where you can buy low carb wraps in the UK and also if they really are low carb. It would make pack ups a lot easier! Thanks

    Tracking app

Can anyone recommend a tracking app for my iPad for blood glucose and food as I am trying to correlate the readings with what I am eating. Thank you.

Help please. I'm a newbie and am away from home

So I can't access my diabetic nurse and I have a couple of things which are concerning me. I only started on insulin (Lantus 1 X 16 units once daily) just before I came away on a prolonged trip and I am finding that even though I am injecting slowly and waiting for 10 seconds before taking the...
