Struggling with a total change of direction in carb counting and need help/advice

I've been type 2 diabetic for 14 years and on metformin the whole time. Control has been up and down over those years and was mainly controlled by low carbing. Followed Dr Mosley 8 week sugar diet a number of years ago but my carb intake has slowly sub consciously creeped up. Although any time I...

When to test if only testing once per day

I'm sticking to much the same foods now on a daily basis and wanting to cut down the number of times I test each day. If you only test once per day then when is the best time to do it. I just want to ensure my levels are remaining stable.

Eating out at cafe/coffee shop/garden centres

Hi, I'm looking for some advice/opinions re eating out. I've been in denial regards my diabetes for a number of years now but after recent hba1c result of 111 I've realised that it's time to take it seriously. I'm low carbing and BG levels are around 7 to 8 most days. In the past I get it down...

Canafliglozin side effects.......a question for the ladies on here

I've been taking canafliglozin for quite a while now. Had repeated bouts of thrush in the beginning (a known side effect) but now under control most of the time. Got hba1c down from 88 to 64 so it seems to be working. I have another female problem though. I'm on the contraceptive tablet where...

    Hypos and lucozade

My dad is T2 on insulin. He always uses lucozade to treat hypos. Was at hospital today and seen posters stating that lucozade have reduced their carb content and are not as good now for treating hypos. He had been wondering why he was having to take more than normal recently in order to treat...

    Problems with Accu-chek mobile

Well I received my nice new fancy meter (free trial) yesterday and was very impressed with the look and style. Was also looking forward to being able to test without the messing around with strips. It was going to be so much more simpler and modern.........but it didn't take long for my opinion...

How often do you replace your SD codefree meter?

I've recently tried getting back on track and been really good for over a week now but my numbers are still high. My dad is on insulin and therefore has a decent meter so I decided to try his. Reading was 9.1 on my sd codefree and 6.8 on his meter.......so I've been panicking all week for...

    Head in the sand syndrome

Hi all, I dip in and out of the forum regularly and kid myself on that I'm doing everything right.......who am I kidding!! I've been type 2 for over 5 years now. Had good control in the beginning when the fear factor was there but it has gradually gone now. I know all the things I should be...

    Full fat yoghurt

I'm determined to make a new start with the LCHF and have seen so many articles relating to full fat yoghurt. I did my weekly shop today and searched the yoghurt aisle high and low but couldn't find any yoghurts that weren't low fat high carb! Can anyone please suggest a brand or name or shop...

Is the 2 hour reading conclusive?

Just looking for some advice/opinions. I believed that the reading 2 hours after eating is more or less the highest it will go and then it starts to fall again. However, tonight I tested about 8pm ( 2 hours after meal) and it was 9.6. A friend had told me that sauna/steam room can help reduce...

    Diabetes app update

@Giverny I did an update on my app last night and now there are adverts popping up all the time at the end of every thread and also between threads on the menu. Very annoying! The text is paler in colour and I seem to be clicking on them by mistake. Anyone else getting this? Sent from my D2403...

If a type 2 diabetic now needs insulin........

Does that make them type 1? I always thought once diagnosed as type 2 then you are always type 2 and it's just that you've progressed to needing insulin. Had a discussion with another diabetic who was diagnosed as type 2 in his 40s and was put on insulin years later. He now believes he is...

    Canagliflozin

I was taking 2x500 metformin and doctor has now put me on canagliflozin too 100 mg once per day. Just wondered if anyone else has any experience of this medication and what they can tell me. I've googled it but doesn't say much. Just looking for personal experience of it, if it works and any...

    Coffee with cream

I've read alot of posts with people drinking coffee with cream. I've never tried it and wondered what it tastes like and what kind of cream is used. Do you just make standard black coffee then add the cream? What kind of cream......I assume it's pouring cream? I don't like cream in general but...

    What could be next?

I haven't been on the forum for a long time. Got complacent with the diabetes, lost the fear factor and ultimately lost control. My Hba1c last week was 88, previously 75 in September. Dr has increased my metformin to 850g twice per day (was 500mg twice per day). She said if I don't get it down...

    Dating sites: opinions/experiences

Seen as you are all a mixed bunch of lovely people from all walks of life and have all different experiences, I thought I'd ask your opinions on something totally non diabetic related. I've been separated almost 2 years now after 21 years of marriage. It's been a really difficult period in my...

    RECOGNITION AWARD

This is the only forum I have ever been part of so I am unsure of the right protocol. I just want some sort of recognition for the quick thinking and alertness of several of our members. Their actions managed to avoid the unthinkable happening! I always assumed that the "weirdos" would stick...
