Does anyone have any links to good medical explanations of what the sugar is actually doing to harm me please?
This type 1 numpty hasn't so much fallen off the wagon as been in denial of any wagon - eating all the wrong things and a bit worried this is getting out of hand. So after a bit of...
Hi
I'm on an AM dose of 6 units Humulin and PM 5.5 units Humulin. The half unit does make a difference and stopped me hypoing at night.
A few times recently I have been having a small late night snack and finding that my waking BG is in the 4s or I have a mild hypo (mid to late 3s).
Why is a...
I was diagnosed T1 two years ago. Today at my review the Consultant suggested a GAD test as I am still taking small doses of insulin (11.5 units split day and night).
He said my treatment is unlikely to change so what is the benefit of doing this test?
Can anyone explain? I've been trying...
I have Googled this and what I have found doesn't make sense, can someone explain?
It seems to be a method used when diabetics are in hospital. It looks like it sets the insulin does based upon BG. However I can't get clear whether the insulin is Long Acting/Intermediate or Short Acting...
I just discovered pens that do half doses and have a memory function - the answer to my current problems.
However, I use Humulin I for basal but they don't have a combined memory and half dose pen. Nova rapid does .... And I was wondering if Humulin cartridges might fit in a Novarapid Echo...
I use Humulin I.
During the day 5 units basal works fine. At night I can't get the dose right. 2 units is too low and I wake up in the 8s which if untreated go on up to over 10 sometimes (no breakfast!) Using 3 units at night gives me occasional hypos but usually nice waking levels (4.5 - 6)...
Hi,
I've been searching the forum but can't find the posts I've read before on this topic. So apologies to those who have said this before.
I'm struggling to get my BGs under control. I'm late onset Type 1. No idea if that makes me LADA or MODY etc.
AM wake up too high with BG between 8-10...
Hi
My Contour metre comes with a lancing device which has lot its spring. I asked at the GP but they can't replace it. Does any know of a way to get a replacement lancing device or do I need to replace the whole kit.
Thanks
Is anyone out there doing something proactive to help with feet and circulation?
My circulation wasn't great before diagnosis and I suspect that feet and circulation are one of my weak points for the future. I have been looking at gel insoles advertised on the DUK website and a thing that...
Could anyone suggest additional ways to help myself?
I am low-carbing and keeping my BGs lowish (never above 9 and usually 4-8). But my big toe is starting to go numb (about 2 weeks now) and there is some tingling developing along my instep this week.
Does anyone have further suggestions...
Can anyone recommend some good simple reading as a starting point for getting my head around what is actually happening with the food I eat? I have no scientific background so I need to start from the basics and understand this sort of thing:
what is a metabolic pathway?
how is fat processed...
I could do with some ideas/views from anyone who has been doing this longer than me.
I'm currently just taking Novarapid which has BGs pretty well under control during the day. A couple of months ago, I started getting high BG in the morning. I've tested overnight and things are fairly stable...
Hi
I'm see the DSN this afternoon to request a change to my insulin regime. Currently I only take bolus (novarapid) to cover meals as I am constant 4-7 through the day and I eat low carb to keep post meal spikes no higher than 8 as often as possible. But for the last few months my BG on...
Hi
I'm only 9 months in so still honeymooning. I currently just take Novarapid to cover my meals and that is going well. However for the past few weeks, on waking my sugars are going higher than normal. I used to wake with a nice 5.5 type reading. Now they are always in the late 6's and...
Are there any Type 1s out there currently using this gadget? I'd like to know what you like about it versus your previous meter and whether you had any problems changing your the test strips.
Thanks
This week wasn't a good one. Lots of problems with work, kids, husbands business... just a hard week. I gave up trying to low carb and check pre and post meals ... and I ate macaroni cheese!!! A childhood comfort when things are going down the drain. As I deserved, my lovely controlled bloods...
Hi - need some general advice about how to create a ratio of insulin to carbs. I know this should be done with GP/Nurse etc, but their advice has been of limited use - "try injecting 4 units of rapid acting and see how it goes".
First the goal. Am I right in assuming the aim is to get my post...
I'm new to this and trying to interpret something sensible from the generic answers I have been given by diabetic team - your help/experience in setting a target for BG would be appreciated.
On diagnosis 4 months ago I was told that I should try to keep my BG between 4 and 7 which I went hell...
Hi, I know I'm not talking to Drs on here, it's your views I'd like.
I'm in the honeymoon and just before Xmas I had so many hypos I cut my intermediate acting Humulin I insulin down gradually until I stopped it all together. I've tracked my sugars and keytones and providing I eat sensibly I...
Hi, I'm only a few months in as a Type 1 and trying to get my head around the options for managing my diabetes. If anyone out there is a Humalin user I'd like to know what combinations they are using. My GP isn't very knowledgeable but didn't want to follow the consultant's suggestion to use...
