    Steroids & Stability!

Given that you are on Metformin I would have said you are doing really well. Yes, the levels could be lower but I know how tough it is to achieve. I had difficulty controlling my levels and I was switched from twice a day insulin to 4 times a day. The most miserable thing about it all for me was...

    any one take LYRICA(pregabalin)

Hi, I recently changed to Pregabalin for Diabetic Neuropathy from Gabapentin. I don't take a particularly large dose at present as I have been told it is a drug that you increase steadily so I take one capsule in the morning and two at night. I have to say it doesn't seem particularly effective...

    Walt Disney World Florida

Portion size is huge!!! I have been there many times, although the last time we went was in July 2005 as my health has been very poor since then. Hoping to go again next year though. Although I haven't been since being diagnosed with diabetes I have always been aware that many restaurants have...

    Diabetes with J-Pouch &/or Whiples

Hi Zen, I don't have a pouch - however, I have had an ileostomy and, 4 weeks ago, I had my rectum removed so there is no going back for me. I ended up diabetic because of very high doses of steroids which they tried to treat my ulcerative colitis with so I know how difficult it is to balance...

    Please I need your help

Hi James. I was diagnosed in August 2006. I was admitted to hospital very ill and was thought to have an infection somewhere in my digestive system (I had a sub-total colectomy in the April). However, it very soon emerged that I was diabetic, caused by long term, high dosage of steroids to try...

    New to this group

Hi James - welcome to the forum. I became diabetic (insulin dependent) following a long course, and high dose, of steroids to try and control symptoms of ulcerative colitis. Unfortunately my pancreas was damaged to such an extent that I no longer produce any insulin. I have a mountain of other...

    Amitriptyline

I take a fairly low dose of Amitriptyline but a fairly large dose of Gabapentin for Neuropathy. I must say I have never noticed side effects (been on Amitriptyline for about 5 years as I was first prescribed it to relieve muscle tension which was causing migraines). Same with the Gabapentin - in...

    Prednisolone Tablets

Hi - I am not medically qualified but I have much experience of diabetes and prolonged use of steroids which I was taking to control an inflammatory bowel disease (I had Ulcerative Colitis). In fact, the high dose and long use of them actually caused my diabetes. Like you, I experienced very...

    STEROIDS AND DIABETES

Hi Justin I, too, became diabetic following large doses of steroids which I had for an inflammatory bowel disease. I had terrible trouble getting my BMs under control as I was also on an immuno-suppressant drug (Cyclosporin) for a skin condition. That also has a marked effect on surgar levels...

    Lantus and storage ... oops

Thanks Stu. What worried me was that this was a box of 5 new pens. I only use a new pen once every 10 days or so. That means the last pen won't be used until about 40 days' time. Do you think I should discard the unused ones after 28 days? I'm sorry if I sound thick - I am just worried. Jackie

    Lantus and storage ... oops

Well I just had a look at the leaflet and it says "If the pen has been taken out of the cool storage place either for use or to be carried as a spare you can keep it at a temperature of up to 25c for up to 4 weeks." Hopefully that means putting in back into a fridge after about 36 hours should...

    Lantus and storage ... oops

It was normal room temperature Hana. I will go and check the leaflet right now ..... can't believe I was that stupid. Jackie

    Lantus and storage ... oops

I picked up a Tesco carrier bag (yes, carrier bag!) of medication on Monday. I went to sort it all out this morning and found, to my horror, that I had not taken out the Lantus and put it in the fridge  . Am I still able to use it or should I go, cap in hand, to my GP and ask for another...

New user - Desperate for help

I'm afraid I can't offer any advice but I just wanted to say I understand your pain. I have almost identical problems although I am on a different medication: I take Gabapentin, 200mg, 3 times per day but it doesn't seem to be doing much good. I have gradually increased from just 100mg, once per...

    Right, listen up

There are sad, bitter people everywhere unfortunately. I have only been on the forum for a matter of weeks so have not witnessed, first hand, any shennanigans. However, it has obviously been going on and it is sad to see so many people with such a high post count leaving the forum. These were...

    Re-using lancets

I use multiclix and there are 6 "needles" in the little drum thing that I put into the tester pen. I use a new needle every day so change the actual drum every 6 days. I use the needle approximately 5-6 times a day. Jackie

    Never felt so cold

Exactly the same thing! I actually had surgery nearly 30 years ago because of excessive sweating. It was so bad I became salt deprived. I still used to body sweat even in the middle of winter. However, since my diabetes diagnosis 2 years ago I am like a block of ice all the time. Heating on all...

    antibodies, autoimmunity and diabetes

I find this thread really interesting. I developed Diabetes two years ago following high dose steroid use for a year prior. I was being treated for Ulcerative Colitis, an autoimmune disease. I now am insulin dependent. However, I then developed a skin condition called Pyoderma Gangrenosum which...
