Type 2 blood sugar levels - help!

I've always had high morning readings (<12). Breakfast was 45g of porridge with skimmed milk. Lunch was a single slice of GI bread with a slice of ham & a drizzle of chutney, along with a small yoghurt drink. Most breakfasts and lunches are similar.

Type 2 How do you take your Metformin?

I've been on 500 x 2 Metformin for about four years with no ill affects whatsoever. However, over the past year my BGL has been creeping back up from a really good level so the surgery doubled my dosage (2000 once daily) and put me on slow release. What a change! BGLs have been all over the...

WOW Metformin actually INCREASED my Blood Sugar

I have been much the same - started on Glyclazide then added metformin, then just 500x2 daily metformin for the last seven years. Got my HBa1c down to just below 6 (old money!) over a year ago and from that point it has just crept up and up to 7.4 so I was put on M/R Metformin 2000 once daily...

Who's going to have a pancake tomorrow...?

Well, I had a couple of buckwheat pancakes (with a drizzle of honey & lime juice) for breakfast this morning and my BG two hours later was 4.8 so I am well pleased with that. It's usually a bit lower than that, when I've had a busy morning, but I don't regard that as too high. I might do a...

How old were you at diagnosis?

Re: How were you at diagnosis? Diagnosed type 2 in July 2009 at the grand old age of not-quite-62 after losing 10 kilos over a month, terrific thirst, pins & needles in feet and hands, leg cramps and a dose of thrush to add to my misery! Nothing in the family, was not overweight (even before...

    Fish spas

How can anyone call it a "treatment" - it's just another fad surely? Someone getting on the band wagon to extract money from the public for something which we could for ourselves at home (without fish!) and then there would be no issue with infections.

    Seamless socks

Can anyone suggest the best place to shop for genuine seamless socks for diabetics please? My feet don't have a particular problem but I would like to replace the socks I already have which have never been entirely comfortable with their seams to ones which will be. Daily dog(s) walking is my...

    Hair Loss

It's difficult but tell her not to worry too much. I faced this exact same problem this time last year - read this link http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes%2Dforum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10657 It DOES get better but it's likely to take about three months before it starts improving again. In the...

As above, I have seen an enormous difference in my levels - even some fives and fours creeping in. I have a particular problem with Dawn Phen... with levels previous between 9 and 12+ whereas this past week they've kept between 7 and 8. I am keeping a rigorous eye on levels, carry dextrose...

And here's me thinking Tesco was a cheap supermarket - I can get Lizzi's Granola in the little health food shop in my local small town for £2.99. And it's absolutely lush! :D

    METFORMIN QUESTIONS and ANSWERS

Just browsing through this section of the website after my annual review today. My blood sugars are still far too high - fasting blood came back as 8.6 (no A1c because I had one in June - 7.4%) so from today I shall be taking 2x80mg gliclazide in the morning only (down from 1x3 times a day) and...

Why the variation in blood sugar readings?

Thank you everyone for your comments. The only reason I took more than the usual one test was that I was surprised at the level. I had practically the same meal the night before (with a steak rather than a pork chop) and my before/after dinner reading was 7.2/8.5. Last night it was 7.3/13.0...
