    Cancer Drugs and BG Control

Thank you very much for this thoughtful and considered reply. I hadn’t thought of the possibility that it might be the Cancer itself that was causing the problem but this also fits well with the timeline I experienced. In fact, better than the medication because the Cancer obviously started...

    Cancer Drugs and BG Control

Hi, I’ve not been back to the forum for several years. In 2018 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer (spread to bones). Straight onto hormone treatment then full course of chemo got it under control in 2018. This year it started growing again but we caught that early and it’s even further...

Now approaching 68. Diabetes was out of control. Now put on Trulicity which, although brutal in side effects, really seems to be working.

    Muscle cramps

I have suffered the same as you. Almost by chance I found out that if I stop drinking diet drinks or eating foods with artificial sweeteners in them, the cramps stop. Unfortunately, even some sugar based drinks, which we shouldn’t be having anyway, have artificial sweetener as well as the sugar...

    Reducing Metformin from tonight

I thought they worked best if you took them with food, but might give it a try.

    Reducing Metformin from tonight

I'm not taking, the slow release version yet. Thought I'd wait and see how the reduced dosage works first.

    Reducing Metformin from tonight

This is my last day on 4*500mg (2 with breakfast, 2 with dinner) as I'm moving down to 2*500mg (1 and 1). I read here somewhere that I can expect 80% of the benefits on the reduced dose. I'm not sure my control is that consistent that I'll be able to tell if BG goes up as a result. Anyone got...

    metformin. can't do it anymore

Many thanks for posting @whompa73. We need this information to be out there, whether embarrassing or not. I've been on Metformin for some time now (2000mg per day). Although it does sometimes give me extremely windy diarrhoea, especially mid morning, the bigger problem is that this in turn gives...

    Good but disappointing HbA1c result

Yes, I'm one of the people who've always had an off the graph level of cholesterol but , rightly or wrongly, I'm a statin refuser so it doesn't worry me. In my case, my BP is mainly down to weight. I exercise fairly often but I need to get some more weight off.

    Good but disappointing HbA1c result

I'm no expert on blood pressure, but in my case it seems very well correlated to my weight. When my weight goes down (or up) so does my BP. I personally don't believe in any "medicine for life". It's there to relieve a condition. If you can fix the underlying condition ( for example by reducing...

    Good but disappointing HbA1c result

Update..... Visited my doctor this morning and we had a really good discussion on progress. We jointly decided to leave the Ramipril at 5mg per day and reduce the Metformin from 2000mg to 1000mg per day for now. I think that if I had really pushed him, he might have stopped the Metformin and...

    Good but disappointing HbA1c result

I use the Myfitnesspal app to track my daily intake and it gives me both calories and carbs. It's easy to use, especially as you can scan barcodes on a lot of foods. I then enter the meal total carbs and daily total carbs and calories in a page per day diary along with my fasting, 2 hour and 3...

    Good but disappointing HbA1c result

Many thanks for all of your supportive comments. They are much appreciated. I feel that this is the only place that I can discuss these things where there are people who are both knowledgable and helpful and I'm truly grateful for that. I'll go and see the doc on Friday and get that out of the...

    Good but disappointing HbA1c result

Three months ago, my HbA1c had come down from 65 to 48 and I felt there was scope for more improvement. Over the last three months I have been following a lower carb regime (not low by some standards at 130 to 150 grams per day) and testing fasting, 2 hours and 3 hours after dinner as a minimum...

    Type 2 High Cholesterol

If you want an alternative view to that of our NHS, you should have a read of "The great cholesterol con" by Dr Malcolm Kendrick. You can make your own mind up. Personally, I am convinced that the whole cholesterol story and its variants as propounded is on the same level of correctness as the...

Type 2 Body working hard overnight to undo my good work!

Just to show there's no consistency at all, my 2 hour last night was a less than perfect 8.2, and my 3 hour a good 6.0, so what would my fasting be this morning? Answer at 0935......6.9, one of less than a handful of fasting readings I've had under 7.0! This is going to be my last regular...

Type 2 Body working hard overnight to undo my good work!

Thanks @urbanracer. I was aware of this and I've said before that I can't understand why the NHS puts such faith in fasting tests. In my case I almost always eat nothing after about 7 pm when I finish dinner. It's pretty variable though and I have different experiences on different days. Today's...

Type 2 Body working hard overnight to undo my good work!

Great day yesterday and kept to all my targets. After dinner readings were excellent for me, 2 hour 6.2, 3 hour 5.6.....marvellous! Go to bed, good nights sleep, fasting reading at 0910 8.6! So while I'm sleeping, my body manufactures a rise of 3.0. Fortunately, it's not consistent but it does...

Type 2 How quickly do you recover to good BGs after a lapse?

My new favourite high fat dessert is whipped double cream and blueberries. I had some of that on my recovery day.

Type 2 How quickly do you recover to good BGs after a lapse?

If you have a two or three day lapse and your BG levels go up a bit, how long do you feel it takes for them to come back down again after you've returned to your regular (lower carb) eating? I've had a very controlled day today after a lapse and hoped my reading would be back down to good levels...
