Juggling Diabetes 2 with other health problems!!!!!

Things become difficult to manage as you accumulate various conditions. There may be contraindications between different drugs. Certain foods may be banned for certain drugs. My best way forward has been to avoid most highly processed products. I do eat cheese and gluten-free bread otherwise I...

Diabetic remission, and the risk of Covid-19

Diabetes is high risk but not in itself very high risk. I have received the letter identifying me as "someone at risk of severe illness if you catch ... COVID19" because I have chronic myeloid leukaemia. My letter is "evidence for your employer that you cannot work outside the home". The letter...

    Nhs Heart Age

Interestingly, there is a more sophisticated USA tool here: https://myhealthcheckup.com/cvd/?lang=en That makes my heart age 63.8 against the NHS calculator which makes me 81. I think that the NHS tool was probably produced by an intern or an undergraduate project.

    Nhs Heart Age

Thank you. Good idea. If I lie and say I do not have diabetes, the heart age drops from 81 to 69. It is still high of my real age of 62. My GP tells me that I am so well controlled that it is as though I do not have diabetes. I suspect that the tool is misleading.

    Nhs Heart Age

I am worried about the NHS Heart Age tool at: https://www.nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/heartage.aspx I am 62 and it gives me a heart age of 81. Can this be correct? I have Type 2 diabetes, I am slightly overweight BMI 26.4, and I take one blood pressure pill (Losartan). Are these adverse factors really...

Reducing MetFormin - any side effects?

I know this is an old thread but I found it though a Google search. My GP has reduced my Metformin from 4 a day to 2 a day. My old habit of weeing all night is returning. My visit to the diabetic nurse is several weeks away. The GP is so pleased with all of my results that he is reducing my...

    Coeliac Disease

It is difficult for coeliacs trying to grab a midday snack. So many salads are bulked out with pasta. Pret a Manager does quite well with salad selections but there's not always a pret at hand regionally outside of London.

    Weight gain Gabapentin and Amitriptyline

I use Amitriptyline to counter hand pain. That has no effect on weight. Gabapentin sends me to sleep the day after use. I stopped using for a period and then started again when immediately the sleep effects returned.

    Diabetic Retinopathy >>> fenofribrate

I read on a Birmingham patient website (that I cannot now find) that all patients with retinopathy should be given fenfibrate in addition to a statin. That seems to be supported by academic sites. Tomorrow I have my visit to the diabetic nurse and will get a smack if I tell her that I have been...

Today's email from diabetes.co.uk reads "NHS cutting T2 costs"

The story presented in reply #1 is really very old news re-circulated. The NHS certainly took a decision on reducing the funding of test strips, at least on an area by area basis, some years ago. The decision was founded to a degree upon research as cited and on cost considerations. But I see no...

Today's email from diabetes.co.uk reads "NHS cutting T2 costs"

It's an emotive headline in the all member email. Is that planted there purely to raise attention? There is no corresponding article in the email and by a search I can find no such article. What is this all about?

Type 2 >>> your visits to the diabetic nurse >>> do HbA1c readings follow body weight?

For me, there is almost a perfect correlation between HbA1c and body mass. My lowest weight gave the lowest HbA1c and my highest weight gave the highest HbA1c. Everything in between follows the same pattern. Are your experiences the same?
