Possible link between sweeteners and cancer?

A few thoughts... 13% increased risk, that can mean for example an increase from 1% to 1.13%, meaning small either way. But amplified if the original risk is higher e.g. from 10% up to 11.3% I just think when we read 'increased risk' it can be hard to put this in perspective. It's hard to...

I wish I had happier news..

I couldn't agree more. In the past I've had to self-refer (only easy if you know what service you're eligible for, and how to contact them) and I've even payed for private sessions- which isn't always affordable. I hope you are able to access some help if & when it's right for you. In the...

I wish I had happier news..

I hope this isn't unwelcome advice. But as it sounds like you're not in the right place to take control of your diet do you think it might be helpful to prioritise what sounds like the biggest porblem right now- your emotional health? It sounds like you've had more than your fair share of...

Blood glucose faulty or something more serious

I think it's worth remembering that insulin resistance takes time to improve. Even if the changes are working for you, you might not see significant improvement for 1-3 months. But your readings meal to meal will tell you a bit about what foods are helpful and not helpful for you.

    Help!

Dry mouth & palpitations can be a sign of anxiety. Stress can cause sugars to rise. Pure speculation... Disclaimer: I'm not diagnosed prediabetic but have similar numbers. I'd say see your GP either way.

Fatty liver, diabetes, PCOS & high blood pressure

I'm aware that my situation isn't the same as yours, and what helps me may not help you. But if you haven't looked at it before can I suggest reading about Inositol supplements? Inositol has a good safety profile and is associated with improved metabolic parameters in people with PCOS (in 40:1...

    Excessive Flatulence (Farting)

The most farty vegetables are beans/lentils/chickpeas; brassicas (cauliflower brocolli cabbage etc), and alliums (onion, garlic). There are lots of other foods that can worsen flatulence but these are the most common as they ferment in the gut. Try reducing- not necessarily cuttiing out...

    Is this something for concern?

I think I'm in the same boat. Well, different risk factors (PCOS not obesity) but similar pattern. I seem to get high-ish readings in the morning even when I haven't eaten. But a more 'normal' pattern during day (with rare exceptions e.g. in 7s & 8s two hrs after a heavy meal). And weight loss...

    Help understanding readings

I've recently been through something similar. Convinced myself I am diabetic/prediabetic, following a series of higher-than-'normal' (for a non-diabetic person) fingerprick tests. I considered a private HbA1C but went for one via my GP. Turned out to be in healthy range suggesting that my...

Treacle tart, 10g carbs per portion

I've always enjoyed tweaking and modifying recipes. Turns out I don't have pre/diabetes, but tested this one when I thought I might. Thought I'd share it here. Treacle tart is something I would treat myself to a handful of times per year. I looked at recipes and the amout of golden syrup...

    Awaiting confirmation

Well, I got my results and things are not as I feared. Definitely below pre-diabetic range, which was a big surprise. And similar to a result 2 years ago. I do wonder if my weight loss efforts in recent months (I significantly reduced intake of refined carbs) is reflected, and perhaps I would...

    Awaiting confirmation

Wow isn't it bizarre?! I'd really have thought it would drop after a few hours. I wonder if that means my cortisol levels are high until I've eaten, too? If so then perhaps intermittent fasting isn't going to be for me after all, unless I have an early eating window instead of a later one...

    Awaiting confirmation

Yes I know I've been complacent with my eating over the years, especially as a person of 'healthy' weight/BMI. Even if the HbA1C comes back 'not diabetic/prediabetic' I think I'll still maintain some healthy changes in the long-term. The daily exercise has been brilliant so far and really helped...

Thanks it's really helpful to get an idea of timescales I know it'll be different for everyone but if I'm making a few changes it will be encouraging to look forward to seeing a difference in a few months

    Awaiting confirmation

Well I suppose we'll see soon enough. Dawn phenomenon might be sufficient to explain the fasting readings earlier in the morning (although I wonder if it can explain those taken when I've checked at 12pm, having been up 6 hours and not eaten since 8pm the evening before...?). I've assumed dawn...

    Awaiting confirmation

Curiosity led me to check my blood glucose, in spite of few risk factors (a possibly-diagnosis of PCOS a few years ago that was never confirmed, but nothing else). Higher-than-normal numbers every time, regardless of time of day. Quite the surprise. I'm trying not to self-diagnose and am...
