    Wanting to try Low Carb

It’s more what to eat if I’m not eating carbs. I’m under investigation for possible coeliac/wheat allergies and possibly dairy allergies so I’m at a loss. Ideally if i could lose some weight, that’d be awesome

first pregnancy and terrified about BMs

I'm 20wks with my first - and I had 3-4 weeks where I could not get enough insulin to control my sugars. The result of which was me phoning my DSN in tears BG insulin was eventually put up and I now am struggling sometimes to stay at 5. My hubby is joking that it's a bad day when a high sugar...

11 year old daughter just been diagnosed with type 1

I was 11 when I was diagnosed - so I can only really see it from what your daughter is going through. Firstly, I'd love to say it's an easy journey - unfortunately, it's not - but it is made easier with the right mindset. The best advice I was given (well, technically, my mum was given) was...

    Waking up with High sugars

It sounds like you're getting a major boost in the early hours from the wonderful (sic) dawn phenomenon. Have you tried doing a 3am blood test (my DSN's favourite instrument of torture)? But it sounds like your lantus dose may not be right

    colonoscopy

I had to have one about 18 months ago. The hospital booked me got the first appointment in the morning so they could feed me as soon as gory could. The night before, I was allowed clear fluids so had some Knorr simmer soups drained (Chicken Noodle flavour) which kept the sugars fairly even...

How the DOC helped me (after 49yrs of T1)

I've just watched that blog and am sitting here 22 years on from diagnosis feeling really horrified. I was diagnosed at the age of 11 (a month after my birthday) and I still remember the ward sister at Sick Kids in Edinburgh telling my mum to pull herself together - I wasn't disabled, I had a...

    Blood sugar and pregnancy

Hi Steph The exact same thing happened to me and I had a scary few weeks. I'm now 17 weeks and seem to be holding steady. What my DSN asked me to do was to keep a diary and gradually up my background insulin. Originally her plan was to change my insulin but I stood my ground. My morning...

    Hyper first thing

My DSN usually tells me the opposite - that I need to cut back the basal as I must be hypoing in the middle of the night.......... I never understood how the "take less insulin and your BG will improve" theory worked.............

Re: Medical bracelet Hi I get my medical ID from http://www.icegems.co.uk/ They have a range of very pretty ones - I have even had comments in shops because they just look like normal bracelets. I've got the triple strand one at the moment And the best thing is they're not too pricey. Sharon x

    Hyper first thing

I test as soon as I wake up in the morning. My BG in the middle of the night usually sits around the 6-8 mark  I go to bed usually around 5-9 depending on what I've done in the evening..............................

    Hyper first thing

Hi More advise needed. I'm on insulatard and novorapid. My BG when I get up in the morning is rarely below 11. I then spend all day trying to correct to bring it down. I have been told to speak to my DSN - but to be honest, she may not be talking to me after I told her I thought clinic...

Trying so hard but it's not enough

Hi Kat I can fully sympathise - I've been type 1 for nearly 21 years. Went through a bit of a bad stage through my teens then pulled it back. Was at the hospital last week and was told that exercise is the magic cure and that I've managed a HbA1C of 7.2 - but that was 3 years ago. I think...
