Nightmare PRP eye laser surgery - has anyone else had it?

Re: Nightmare PRP eye laser surgery - has anyone else had it ouch, that's terrible. I had laser treatment last year. I'm based in France so it's a little different to the UK in how they do things it seems. I was given eye drops to take, an hour before the appointment - one set to open the...

    Insulin Dose differences

I'm currently living in France. For many years, when I was in the UK, I was on a dose of 26u per day of Lantus. When I came to France and found a specialist to visit, she was horrified and immediately reduced my dose to 13u, and has subsequently reduced it to 11u per day. I have several...

    New to this

Starch isn't as bad for diabetics as sugar, no. But you do have to watch how much you eat. I'm T1, and can counter balance it with insulin. As T2 on a diet, I believe that you have to keep your carbs (in any form, sugar/starch) to a minimum. As far as I understand it, avocado and most green...

applying for jobs and Type 1

From my own HR team: 'We aren't allowed to discriminate against people with any health issues. Revealing diabetes is important, since any 'episodes' will need to be documented for legal reasons. We would not request medical records etc. It is not a legal requirement to mention that you have...

A way to get away with potatoes

oh, Right. Ok, I'm still a little confused. You are on a low-carb diet? How does the addition of cheese and cabbage allow you to 'get away with' potatoes? I'm really not trying to be rude or argumentative or anything that I know people will think. It's just that I frequently make bubble and...

A way to get away with potatoes

Umm I'm obviously being stupid here, but what's the difference between that and .. mash potato? Colcannon? whatever you want to call it. That's how I make mine.

    Differing results

Just been reading an article about someone who has often tested her bs on two different machines, with the same blood, and gets widely differing results. Anyone else had this issue?

    Ryanair doesn't care about diabetics

It's most likely staff without the ability to take initiative. Jobsworth, if you like :) you get them everywhere, unfortunately. The only thing you can do is as they request of you, no matter how annoying it is. I fly regularly with EasyJet between Paris and Liverpool, and Bristol. I have also...

    sugar levels

ah well, I'm just going by what I was told 25 years ago :) I used to eat grapefruit like oranges, even in the hospital when I was a kid. I still do eat them, sometimes, when it's really hot and I feel like something refreshing (although with a spoon in the traditional grapefruit fashion, rather...

Any type 1's who don't use insulin?

I've no idea, but wow. Hope it's correct, and you find you never have to take insulin again :D Fingers crossed for you!

    sugar levels

as a T1, I have always been told fresh grapefruit is 'free' ie, can eat one without counting it. I've never taken it into account when I've calculated my breakfast insulin, and have never seemed to suffer. Maybe it's different for T2's though.

    I really need some advice

had you actually considered going down to the surgery and making the appointment in person? I'm not sure why you are asking on these forums, though. Surely this is something that you should be able to sort out without asking those who don't know the circumstances, or the situation in your...

    Petrol Stations

lol you should try living in Paris for a while ;) They seem to think diet drinks of any kind are the work of the devil. You can get any amount of fizzy water, though. I've lost count of the number of times i've been offered OJ as an alternative to 'full fat' coke (as we tend to call it). Had...

    AM i diabetic?

If you have both types in your family, ask if you can borrow a blood test kit off one of them and do a quick test. Then get yourself to your doctors, and ask him :) If you aren't feeling 100%, it's always better to get a professional opinion :)

    lost it

Yeah, I think we all get that at times. Even non-diabetics get bouts of sadness. It's human nature :) <hugs> I hope you have some people that you can talk to, and can help you get over it :) But if not, well, you have us on here and we'll do our best to help cheer you up, and make the world...

    Top Gear last Sunday

It is a beautiful car to drive, that is for sure. I believe they filmed that in Wales, but may be wrong. I don't think they'll stop making fast cars completely, but there will be less of them seen out on the roads. Only those v rich peeps will be able to afford them soon. Lottery winners, and...
