Hi all.

I'm under a lot of stress at the moment, have been since Christmas really and I'm having a bit of a hard time keeping my nerves in check. I have been very preoccupied with other stuff, haven't really been watching what I eat properly..just not taking much care.

Felt rough today, breathless and headachy, bags under the eyes that look like sacks, not really at my best.

I looked at the BG monitor, it looked at me (for the first time in ages) and I checked about tem mins ago-17.6 which I think is the highest it has ever been. :(

I feel so damned demoralised that I could weep, haven't been taking my BP meds or diuretics either. Things just seem to be getting a bit much but I'm not one for giving in so support to get back on track would be very welcome.

Thanks.

Hey Ladybird!

So sorry you're having a tough time! Perhaps if you test a bit more often for a while the high numbers will spur you into looking after your diet a bit? Whatever else is happening, please make sure you take your meds and eat properly! Everything seems worse when your BGs are up. Try to get a good night's sleep and resolve to tackle it tomorrow!

Take care

OH I can so empathise Ladybird! I am very stressed too. Despite being very good with my diet and exercise stress took me to 14.8 last night .H ighest for years. Not my fault. So annoying . HBa1C due tomorrow but not going. Normally have reading of about 4.7 before bed not 14.

I have been testing but found it just depressing. Terrible thing stress. Its not all about diet and exercise.
Strangely enough BP is fine.

I have just decided I will have to live with it until I sort out all the things which need doing.
Sorry can't offer any useful advice . Just sympathy and empathy.
Life has a habit of messing up blood sugar levels.

Keep the up head ladybird!! I would say Christmas for a lot of us is the hardest and most stressfull time for us T2s. No matter how hard I try to be good, I know I havent been over Xmas, but am slowly getting back into routine. We are also in the middle of moving house for the first time in 27 years, just to add to the stress of Xmas. Just take small steps at a time, youll get there!!

It can all get to much to deal with sometimes, I know, when other things are happening in your life, but I would say, even though you're very down, do start taking your tablets again, as these will bring your sugar back down, and then it will be easier to get your diet sorted out. I know what you feel like, and there will be many others on here, so the support is here. :)

Best Wishes,
Helena

Thank you all, your support means a heck of a lot at the moment. Life really can be a b**ch sometimes but I will try and find some time to look after me as well. x

Hi Ladybird
Sorry to hear your not feeling great. I had a rather stressful year last year coming some strong pain killers put me through panick attacks, feeling stressed, bad tempered. Sugars went up in the 20's and occassionally 30's just had to keep upping my insulin, but what some people don't realise stress causing our sugars to rise.
Firstly please make a deal with yourself that you will return to taking your Meds. Then may be do a week of fasting and then every two hours after food, Then at least you will get some sort of pattern, but remember you need to sort through what's stressing you, then you can sort your sugars out properly.
We are here if you need to chat you can even pm me if you want to talk privately, but remember we are not doctors but we can offer support.
I am a Type 1 and have been for 36.5yrs and am now 42, i do have a couple of complications, am interested in helping any ages with the disease/illness, i also suffer from depression but am on Meds for it, but i hope you are feeling better soon.
Take care
Tracey

Hey Ladybird, its no use living in the past and today is a brand new day, try to take your meds regularly as they are no doubt prescribed for a reason and not taking them may leave you with more stress to worry about in the future.

To remind me to take all my meds I use one of these, only a few pounds from your local chemist or even cheaper off the well known auction site.

I just refill the compartments once a week on a Sunday morning and I always know if I have missed a day/period which is rare now I use an organiser

Thanks Tracey and Sid.

My 90 yr old mum has been in hospital since Christmas Day and has been extremely unwell, my 21 yr old daughter with special needs still hasn't got the permanent residential placement that she needs..ongoing things I'm afraid.

Knowing that I can rely on everyone here, I have taken my meds again and have knocked the "high" carbs on the head for a few days until I get the weight and the bg back down.

I don't do a fasting test as mine is always higher than it should be but will be checking after meals, 9.1 last night. Far too high but better than the previous night..just need to concentrate on eating properly and drinking enough.

Feel somewhat better mentally today.

Thanks folks.

Glad to hear you are feeling a little more 'together' today LB, as regards the bg levels you are doing the right thing, I have tightened my own diet from yesterday as I had let it slip over the festive season and put on about 9lbs though December and the start of this month so I'm back on the half a grapefruit for breakfast small Burgen sandwich for lunch and watching the carbs at dinner.

I think I have become complacent over the last couple of years because my control has been pretty tight so I did try the occasional sweet/chocky, sausage roll and mince pie, always my downfall even before diabetes. Still I did have a good Xmas

So good luck to us both eh

Hi
Sorry to hear about your story. Getting down under 10 is excellent i know we should be lower but take one day at a time. I'm not surprised your sugars have been high with all the worry. Just take one day at a time. We are hear to listen and if we can advice then we will.
Look after yourself as much as possible.
Tracey

Poor Ladybird! Problems concerning others in matters over which you have little control arre sheer hell aren't they? I have similar problems from time to time . Until they are resolved I am in a permanent state of stress.
Just tell yourself you have to be as well as can be to cope with it all and to help those who need your help to the best of your ability. if you do all you can with your doet and medication , when you get some resolution your levels will fall immediately.
Maybe ,now the Christmas season is over and things are returning to normalyou will get some sense about your daughterat least. I hope your mum's condition improves soon.

Thanks Unbeliever, I appreciate the support..it always helps to know that people understand. Gives me the incentive to take time for myself and my health.

By the way, got a 6.8 after dinner tonight. :D

And another ta to Tracey and a definite  to our Sid.

Glad you are feeling a bit better Ladybird. I know we can't solve your problems but we are all here to support you and there has been alot of good advice given. Problems where you have no control over the situation are definitely the worst but hang on in there, stay positive and look after yourself.
Well done on your BG level tonight-mine was 8.2 and I had NO carbs for dinner.

You can buy them for a pound in Poundland and they have 4 compartments per day.

I'm back on the half a grapefruit for breakfast

Just wondered Sid, I was taking grapefruit but then DN advised I shouldn't be taking it while on statins-are you on statins?

Hi missus :)

While you're waiting for Sid's reply I thought I would chime in.

Grapefruit is a definite no-no for those on any type of statin drug, there is normally a warning printed on the dispensing label of statin meds. Hubby takes them and daughter is also on them (a ridiculously high dose that I am not happy about) and they were warned about avoiding grapefruit or it's juice.

Thanks for that Angie. That's exactly what I thought but I got a little over excited at the prospect of being able to eat grapefruit again.

(I had been eating grapefruit while on statins with no ill effects so I was beginning to wonder if I had been mis advised)

7.1 two hours after chicken curry, greens and some lentils. Could be a heck of a lot worse.

Think I'm back on track now so thanks everyone for getting me sorted out. xx :)

I think you will find grapefruit increases the effect of statins so if you are not on the maximum dose it may, only may, be safe to have a small quantity but I'm no expert

Sorry Choco but only just seen this question but as already answered grapefruit should not be eaten by those taking statins, I believe a warning to that effect comes with the medication.

Hi all.
Me too, Take simvastatin plus exetrol statins plus I truly adore grapefruit too!!!
Was told it would effect the performance of the statins, acidity in the grapefruit breaks down the effectiveness of the drug.
**** [topic relate!] N do I LOVE grapefruit ... Yep I do...
I eat the thinly sliced lemons in my diet tonic water , also lemon mouuse/sorbets to compensate. There is always a way around these hurdles we face. If you cant jump over them - go round them! :P
