Hi all, due to pain/numbness in feet and lower legs (over past few months) plus needing to drink stupid amounts of water - I decided to order a tester yday. First reading was 27.7 (no food for 2 hrs), then left it a while and tested again at 27.2 then final time prior to bed (no food 4hrs+) reading 26.7... being totally new to all this should I try and get in with my doctor in next few days or is it more serious?

It's more serious or at least it could be if you get ketoacidosis, are you losing weight uncontrollably too?

I admit that my BG was even higher at diagnosis than yours is now but for some people your level gets them 'blue lighted' to hospital.

Try to get an urgent appointment today.

We obviously cannot diagnose you over the internet. All I can say is that you are presenting with classic symptoms of diabetes.

It is likely that with weight loss you have ketones in the blood which when coupled with high glucose levels can be quite dangerous.

Please get this checked out ASAP.

Ok many thanks will do

If you're in the UK then ring 111 and tell them your readings and the weight loss. They may be happy for you to see your doctor today or they may well tell you to go straight to A&E.

Good luck, and let us know how you go.

Hello @Mark1213 Hopefully you will get seen asap.

Please let us know how you get on ?

Yes, get to the GP ASAP or to A&E if you feel unwell to avoid the risk of DKA. Personally I wouldn't bother with 111 as there is little point. You need a rapid diagnosis and possibly some insulin. In the meantime keep the carbs right down and have plenty of water.

Hi folks thanks for the concern, all new to me. Been to docs, pee test done, went to hospital for bloods. He thinks it may be pancreatic related due to my Dad having pancreatic cancer and dying young (43). Been given 168 x 500mg tablets so I guess it’s not going away anytime soon lol ! CT scan & other results will have to wait and see :-/

Good to hear you have started the process of getting it all checked out.
