A bit of good news

Finally had my appointment with the diabetes nurse. She confirmed my suspicion that I was now Type 2, with a reading of 48, which she explained was just 1 point into this range. I then showed her my 3 month plan for lifestyle and dietary changes (low carb higher fat), which I am now 1 month into. Given my weight loss and glucose meter reading for the past month, she was impressed and surprised to say the least. She also felt on the basis of this and that I was only 1 point into the range I was probably no longer at this level so recorded me as pre-diabetic on the record. A further blood test in 2 months where we both hope I will have achieved 42 or under.

It was ONLY after finding this forum and receiving all the help, support and advice from its members that I was able to get my head around Type 2 and formulate a plan of action. I know I am lucky having a small reading and that many 'newbies' have far higher readings, however, the principle is the same. Formulate your own plan, commit to it, modify it as required, in the expectation that your reading will come down.

That is good, and well done.
Just be aware that as you don't have a diagnosis of diabetes, the system will not flag you for regular hba1cs, nor feet nor eye checks, nor further seeing that wonderful nurse. It's the NHS equivalent of "computer says No".
I had this as I got my first high level during covid and had got myself into remission before I was ever seen by anyone else. Luckily, after a bit of fight, I now have on my records that I can have an hba1c check anytime I ask, but the system won't allow me to access any of the rest of it.
It does mean I've become extra vigilant at managing my own health diabetes wise. I get eye checks becuase I've had non-related problems and the consultant surgeon always orders a full set of exams.
Like me, you probably won't like the idea that to get high enough hba1c results, you'd have to eat carbs and gain weight, quite considerably!
It's a daft system and as you will probably stay outside it, do ensure you look after yourself. You could find an optician who would take a special interest in you.
Personally I take pride in looking after myself better then the professionals would!

Many thanks for your sage comments, I will be acting upon them. Also thanks for other members kind comments. Given my efforts and extensive research the nurse did suggest we swapped seats. Unfortunately she did suggest I eat some more carbs such as salad pots and whole grain bread, so I had to 're-educate her on this, which she did in good humour. I see her as a 'work in progress' to bring her back from the dark side!!!

For any newbies, I would urge you to check out Dr David Unwin and Dr Michael Moseley on Youtube. IF what they say feels right for YOU go for it.
