Can someone kindly help me with a figure of what is acceptable Carbs on the packets of food when I shop. I always just look at sugar only and now realise this has just been fooling me.
Thank you

That depends wholly on what your aim is.... Moderately low carb, low carb, keto? For me, I tend to stick with foods with little to no carbs. If it's under 5 per 100 I'll use it in moderation, but prefer less.

Yes, the "...of which sugars" thing is really unhelpful, but it helpd to support the "carbs are healthy carbs" ideology.

The answer depends on a couple of things. Here's the way I look at it - this is in the context of my standard intake being around 20g carb/day, so adjustments may be necessary:

It depends on what you're aiming to eat in terms of carbs in a given day. If you're going (eg) for a daily total of 100g, you have a lot more leeway.

It's not just the carbs per 100g of a food: it's also the quantity of that food that you're going to eat.

Example: I like a pickle to go with a curry - Sharwoods pickles are often about 15-20g carb per 100g. But if I'm only going to have a 10g teaspoon of pickle, that's a total of 1.5-2g carbs and for me it's acceptable. However a 200g apple, at 12g carb per 100g, would be a total of 24g and therefore ruled out.

Also, I aim not to buy processed packets of food - I try to go for fresh. I'm retired and have the time to shop and cook, which helps. I have been caught out by manufacturers use of things like maltodextrin to get round definitions.

Saky,

As you can see by my situation, as low as I can possibly take. This is a 3 month crash course mission. If I don't get this surgery, life is not worth living. I have had enough of being like a caged animal however everything is my own **** fault.
I have told my doctor I shall exit from all of this if need be. She said are you suicidal, I replied No I am just a realist. She did nothing because I am not depressed, I just won't live anymore with this unacceptable quality of life.

The truth is I put the ball in the bunker. I have to chip it out. I have put my heart and soul into this. It's only day 6. Just to go 6 days without Ribena is a massive feat for me. Thank you for your kindness

You really are making a difference. And if the diet is too difficult to keep up as it is, reintroduce more fats. Mainly from meat, poultry, fish, eggs... They're filling and no carbs whatsoever, but they won't leave you hungry. Maybe start drinking water with lemon juice in, so you still drink enough.

You've got this. And that surgery WILL happen.

You have an intolerance to carbs and sugars, each of us, has a level of tolerance, mine is really low.
So for me, there is no acceptance of carbs in my diet. I have to, otherwise I will be very ill!
To put in context, you are in the heavy rough, but there is a stroke penalty if you get out, cos it's out of bounds
To play on, you have to accept how to navigate the course. And that means missing the bunkers, put the ball on the green.
You can do this, my dietary limitations is hard but acceptable. And I now enjoy it!
As a T2, anything that is similar to Ribena, is so bad for you, as is any drink or food that is concentrated.
Just have a go, you may reach par, if you put it on the fairway!
