Hypos, rude people, ignorance and grey days.
So in my quest to get fitter earlier this year I bought a Jawbone, it measures steps and sleep patterns. However i've noticed a flipside to having one as i've been able to see when I wake during the night and for how long. Recently i've been waking with levels at 14+ so have been adjusting my basal patterns to bring it down, however last night I noticed I woke 4 times in total, about 10 mins each time from 12am, 2am, 3am and then 4am, also had a very weird dream, woke high again at 14.8 but didn't feel too rough this morning, however have no recollection whatsoever of waking up.

I've noticed this on a couple of other nights, but it's normally around 3am, which is my lowest BG point during the night and normally about 10 mins being awake but no recollection in the morning but it's not a consistent every night pattern, just every once in a while.

It's quite an interesting insight into overnight activity - has anyone else got one and noticed the effects on their BG/sleep ?

I don;t have one but I am looking at getting one. I'm fairly sure I "wake up" a few times in the night especially if I drop much below 5, would quite like to see if that is actually the case though..

Hmmm. I wake up when my pump alarms in my sleep that I've dropped into low territory. But I don't normally wake up for hypos. Even when I was wearing a sleep tracker, I had restless sleep but no particular pattern that fitted the CGM trace.

Not heard of the device, how does it measure sleep patterns @Juicyj?

I sleep extremely well (and rarely wake during the night) but do sometimes wonder when I wake with higher than expected bg levels it might have been down to a weird dream/nightmare.

Liquorice and aniseed (especially the tracer I have to drink in hospital before a CT scan - yuk!)
I think Jawbones and Fitbits (worn on the wrist) track movement ie. they measure if you're walking around, exercising or just tossing and turning in your sleep (or lying perfectly still).

There are smartphone apps available (some free) if you want to experiment with analysing your sleep patterns, before going to the expense of buying a Jawbone (or Fitbit etc). This out-of-date article may give some guidance:

(I used the free version of "Sleep Cycle" on my iPhone for a while, but disliked having to leave my phone charging all night.)

As far as I can gather it measures movement in the body, so can see when your more restless so experiencing light sleep and deep sleep when there's no movement at all. I only bought it to keep fit and keep moving more as that helps me a lot with keeping my levels stable, just a fascinating insight into sleep patterns too.

hi @Juicyj
i do hope you keep posting updates on this -- i was not even aware of the technology

it does sound very promising to help with your overnight basal rates .

Definately a more restless sleep if low, blood sugar wise. I used the Libre for a while & this showed me going low through the night & rising again just before dawn. These mornings I would wake covered in sweat & unrested. Some basal testing has allowed me to reduce my basal by a third.
