Advice on Newcastle Diet for smaller women

Also I have a shake as my dessert after my dinner and my 2 hours after meal up to today have been good. So I don't think that's the problem. Tbh I think the issue is 800cals is too much for me. Im not finding this at all problematic . Rarely feel v hungry and the headaches cold etc have gone. I will keep at it but my early assumptions on this thread about 800cals being too much for a small person may be proven right after the full 8 weeks.

So the question is am I in ketosis. I suppose I could buy some testing strips to find out

I doubt you're in ketosis if the shakes are carby. I believe ketosis will give better glucose readings as well. I need to stay under 20 carbs and limit protein as well as cals to be in ketosis. I am 5'8 and 125 pounds I would estimate I eat around 1000 cals.
My macros are
20 carbs x 4 equals 80
30 protein x 4 equals 120
I eat one avocado, 3 T mayo and about an ounce of nuts totaling about 73 grams of fat x 9 equals 657 for a grand total of 857. I may not eat the whole ounce of nuts either.

This plan keeps me in ketosis and lowBS

My view too but not Newcastle unis view so I'm going to stick at it. The shakes are only 21g of carbs each so not much different to your carb intake . I'm not eating meat during the week and at w/Es I'm doing the 800 Cals via the Michael Moseley book also Newcastle approved

I've always wondered if the Newcastle diet seems to work better if the body is in a reduced calorie mode, but still having to process carbs, as opposed to trying it without carbs, where it kind off fixes other stuff, and the carb processing bits simply get left out of the repair.
It seems a bit like a runner trying to build himself up by doing upper body exercises, rather than starting by walking and building up in stages.

Hmm so difficult . I'm only in week 3 so let's not draw any hard or fast conclusions yet

No, keep going as you are, you're nearly halfway there now. :)

I'm going to see it through . Don't worry . My fitness levels are improving as my workout tonight was so much easier than normal. So even if I'm still a high bgl diabetic in 5 weeks time my heart and lungs are going to feel better for it all. And hey metformin isn't the end of the world I guess

Fbg 8.8 . Coming down again . Less than going to bed bgl(9), so I think these high levels are due to the incident

Surprisingly hungry today but my resolve hasn't slipped

So I think the issue with my bgls may be my monitor . I use the accu chek mobile and I changed cartridges the day of the long drive . My readings since then have been generally 9 or above. I just did my before bed test and got 9 then 8.7 then 8.5 as three different readings over 2 minutes. Could it be that I have a dodgy cartridge? Should I buy a new one and compare? Or could it just be high cortisol levels still in my system since the traffic incident? Views gratefully received

Oh yes and I'm sticking rigidly to the diet and I don't feel ill or have any stress at all

Hello Naiom425,
This is my first post here so hope I don't sound too preachy.

From the advice from the Newcastle team on the diet ,you need 5 pints H20 optimally a day and ketobreath may happen.

I'm not sure if I'm clever enough to experiment to introduce enough carbs to offset the protein causing ammonia in the breath and if I have enough will power to not over do it
Mint/ chewing gum and mouthwash is what I'm using to beat the dragon breath

By the way, 'shakethatweight' is a good replacement for optifast which I got from the advice from the Newcastle Uni vitality and aging team.

Oh I'm easily drinking 3 litres of water a day. I've always been a big water drinker as I have a history of kidney infections so that bit has been a doddle.Newcastle also suggested slim fast to me which I've been using as its easy to get hold of. Still think that the one thing Newcastle haven't considered is my size which is why I'm not in ketosis (and yes I know that pear drop smell and had it a lot as a kid ).

Calories are more per bottle but otherwise there's not huge differences
