Hey
I find my sugar levels are consistently good, but right before hospital appointments, they become horrifically bad, literally the day before. Does anyone else experience this?

Never experienced that but sounds a right pain ! Are you getting stressed about your appointments ?
I feel that despite the fact I try not to, it might be, but even if I'm not stressed as I have 0 issues, it seems to still happen.
The other thing is my appointments are always fine, I don't mind the talks or any of the tests, I'm used to it after 6 years, so I have no idea why it happens :P

I used to find I had random highs before my appointments. Maybe it's a kind of subconscious stress - or maybe it's just a particular Law... ;)

Something similar but I think in my case it was the post prandials still being high mid afternoon, usually down by teatime but high at the appt time, I suspect the docs pay more attention to the patterns on the metre and the HBA1C though.

Perghaps "Murphy's Law" or "O'Halloran's corrolary" (Murphy was an optimist:rolleyes:)
All I can suggest is to find an effective meditative technique to combat the stress. If you find one , tell us!

There is a thing called white coat syndrome but that is usually associated with a rise in blood pressure at the stress of attending a doctor/hospital appointment. Perhaps this is something similar?

I used to find ~ 1 week before a HB1AC test I started getting unexplained high's after long periods of consistently good running. Now I simply don't care anymore and it's gone away. I put it down to some self inflicted nervous stress

Stress is a huge factor in blood control, if you feel anxious take a walk and breathe deeply.

I try to see appointments as my opportunity to interrogate my consultant over my control, if he were to and he hasn't yet, question my control/commitment to maintaining good control then I would ask him to walk in my shoes.

They are there to help you ;)

i suffer anxiety issues on a daily bases. But hospital appointments, Drs or anything else i try to avoid at the moment it's all going well though i've attended every appointment :]

Thanks for all the help guys, as per usual my appointment was fine, they were happy with it.

That's why it confuses me, I get consistently good comments yet stress regardless, it's probably just some silly sub-conscious law :P

Good job they check your HBA1C not your daily levels. I get white coat syndrome when I have my blood pressure checked. I have even had to wear a monitor for 24 hours. All fine.

Thanks :)
I know they check my hba1c, perhaps thats what stresses me out, because when I was diagnosed it was stupidly high, and despite the fact its been dropping consistently it seems to still bother me.

I have white coat syndrome with BP appointments. Through the roof. diabetes appointments for me always produce hypos. Guaranteed I always have to excuse myself and swig lucozade in the docs room. Last time he kept me for 20 mins into someone else's appointment time to make sure I was straight when I walked put.
Lovely Dr Ooi.

@Matthew-G-Bell Definitely sounds like a stress thing. My BP is so fried at the surgery that I just take in my own BP monitor now so they can see I am normal at home. Stress probably works the same with glucose levels. Your signature is making me smile - that is my emergency "calms me down at work song". Are you talking to me??!! o_O ......and relax :D

I take my monitor in too, it appears that you are a physical clone of myself.

No way punk, walk on home boy... Glad you enjoy my signature, Far Beyond Driven is probably my favourite album by Pantera overall though!

I've just had to Google "white coat syndrome". I never knew that was an actual 'medical thing', but it does explain why my blood pressure ends up getting taken several times during a check up until the nurse gets a number she likes...

It's something that varies quite a bit with me. I do tend to get it though...

Mine is blue uniform syndrome ( nurses take my BP ) Interestingly after I took a copy of my own results over the last 3 months my BP has not been as high when I have had it taken at the surgery
