I am looking for some guidance on which anti-inflammatory supplements i can use as a T2D. I know that Glucosamine can interact with some diabetic medication. Is it the same for Chondroitin too?

I am currently suffering with Achilles Tendonitis and also have knee joint pain, so I am looking for some supplements to help with these conditions.

My current diabetes medication is Humulin 70/30, Metformin and Dapagliflozin.

Has anybody used a Turmeric and Black Pepper supplement, with any success.

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Being told “Oh go on, one won’t hurt you!”.
Conversely, the food police.
Hi @avisb. I have taken many different supplements including the ones you mention over the years and have now found one that not only costs me nothing but it actually works, AND it reduces my blood glucose readings dramatically.

It’s low carb eating.

Seriously, since moving to low carb, healthy fat to the point of keto, I have no more pain in my hips, knees and hands caused by arthritis, sciatica and old motorcycling injuries.

Thanks @aylalake.

Ah that's interesting .... I recently purchased the Low Carb programme, as it was on special offer.

I am starting this in the New Year. I thought it was pointless trying to starting before Xmas with all the extra food, drink and goodies to tempt me!!

I hope that I have the same success as you. Thank you for taking the time to share your success with me.

I've never tried any supplements.

I take and have taken naproxen (either as prescribed or as Aleve) as an anti-inflammatory to cope with pain from both achilles tendonitis and knee (plus a few other sources) and it works really fine for me. I'm not on any diabetes medication so can't comment on interactions, but I would have thought that your pharmacist is probably the best source of advice about that anyway.

Thank you @KennyA. I will have a chat with my local pharmacist for their advice. I am currently taking standard Ibuprofen for the pain. As I take so much medication, I am looking for a natural supplement to help with the inflammation.

Please keep us posted - I am about to start a glucosamine supplement for joint pain and would be very interested in your conclusions vis a vis blood glucose changes. I've taken it in the past but that was before my T2 diagnosis.

I reversed my Type 2
Treatment type
Tablets (oral)
I took Turmeric and black pepper for a number of years for my arthritis, I stopped it as prior to an operation I was advised it affected clotting. After a previous similar operation when I continued to take Tumeric I had huge amounts of bruising. Anyway long story short, having been off it for sometime I’m not convinced it was really helping me!
However as @aylalake says low carb diet has had a limited affect in improving things.

Edit to add the last sentence!

I use Ibruprofen gel and physical therapies such as stretching and massage.
My knee has been operated on twice so I take good care to are sure I look after it by making sure my stance is always balanced (yoga, pilates, gentle dance,)

I do not have diabetes
Just read a webpage that advocates a three different diet for inflammation.
One is the low carb.
Strange thing is, no meat mentioned, but you can have bone broth!!!
Informs you to eat protein, and of course good fats, which are oils, but doesn't mention good saturated fats, which are very good for your vitamin levels!!
Advocates good grains. I'm shaking my head now!

The actual diet with so many different recipes would cost a fortune for a week's food!

But no mention of eating to your environment or affordability!!!

I am curious about the implications of inflammation. Because, I have read a few studies that the root source of many of the diabetes umbrella of conditions especially T2, is inflammation of the cells.

But what do I know?
