Dry Air Is the Culprit
People do find themselves coughing and sneezing more after a flight, even if the air is cleaned. Still, the culprit is dryness because the typical aircraft cabin is exceptionally dry—probably drier than the air in the desert. At the altitude most aircraft fly, the moisture content is extremely low. With dried out sinuses and nasal passages, it's easier to catch something passed along from another passenger.

Yes been shopping weekly throughout. Couldn’t initially get a slot. It’s been fine and today I ventured into Truro and used the P&R in. All shops hand hand sanitizer and that has dried my hands terribly. But will happily do it again. It’s a case of knowing your risks. But I’m 74 and 22 years diabetic. Type 2 + insulin, overweight, had a pacemaker fitted as an emergency just before lockdown and hypertension. Oh yes and a stent!!! And a wedge fracture in my lower back.

I think perhaps there may never be a vaccine but they will find some ways to treat it.

I’m an optimist and want to live my life. So I will. Away in our Motorhome on 7/7 initially for a month and hope by end of August we can go abroad in it.

Try to look forward. Don’t keep looking for the negatives.

I have a younger friend living in France, terminally ill, having been doing her shopping and being careful. Currently away in the Mediterranean.

Haven't been shopping as all necessary food etc. is delivered. Never had problems getting slots since lockdown. I have driven to a lovely little bakery/deli, which apart from selling great granary bread also have a coffee machine so had a fantastic latte, the first in over 3 months. Won't be going shopping for a long time yet and quite happy shopping online.

Initially during the lockdown, we used a local corner shop for essentials, but the range was limited and no fresh fruit or different cat food for our fussy cats. So, we took the plunge and went masked and gloved to a local supermarket, which had prepared very well to make it Covid19 safe. Initially there were long lines waiting to enter (one in, one out) but by the second week and varying the time to quite early, we found it acceptable and were able to get perhaps 90% of what we needed, which we could topup from the corner shop. At age 70 and T2, with a spouse who has issues with lungs and sinus, we are both sheltering or shielding, but our GP has not categorised us as Extremely Vulnerable, so we are excluded from all of the things that status attracts, and as our attempts at online shopping were were fruitless, we've stuck to our routine. We stay home apart from this and going to pick up meds which is a 200 yard walk, one way. I know that advice is to stay at home as much as possible. We have done. My spouses boss has laid her off on fully pay until September, which has helped, I am retired, but was doing lots of voluntary work, which I had to stop for the time being, but I am hoping to resume in July or by 4th August when shielding ends.

I have worked all the time since the virus started , I work in a small supermarket. So I’ve always done my own shopping and got the first 3 weeks I did my daughters family shop aswell as they were in quarantine . I’ve been fine all the time , you use your common sense only go when you have to. Keep your distance don’t socialise with other people

I work as a security guard in a supermarket and I picked up the virus only mild but was bad enough I received my shielding letter 4 weeks later I’m due back to work end of July I’m slightly worried with working in a supermarket

Hi, I’ve been shopping throughout the lockdown. As under 70 & T2 remission I wasn’t on any “list”. Impossible to get delivery or click & collect. So shopped every 10 days @ Sainsbury’s old & vulnerable hour. Plus fishmonger, butcher & baker in village. Good social distance & all good. Have to say it has been nice to escape house - that + 3 to 5 mile walks.

I've been looking for data. I read weeks ago that 40% of the hospitalized cases are diabetics. But that doesn't tell us what percentage of diabetics are asymptomatic or mild or moderate or severe. It's very difficult to take responsibility for your own health without more information. It's really frustrating.

In answer to your question, I went, masked, to a Starbucks last week. I ordered and paid through the app, then stepped to the station at the door to pick up my coffee. That tiny slice of normal almost made me weep.

I order the bulk of my groceries online when there are slots available. Did take daughter to supermarket for Father’s Day food. We both had masks and gloves.
About 20 people in the small supermarket and almost all ignored the markers on the floor. None had any masks

I had a dental appt in town centre today so popped into M&S for some much needed bras...I've lost weight and need new size...I just grabbed 6 assorted to try on and return and got out. M&S seemed very quiet. Stopped at Lidl on way home, no one on the door and although was quiet we were far too close to each other at the tills as they've abandoned the one queue line. A family with teenagers were totally oblivious to social distancing so that's when I pulled my mask up and was glad I had it with me. I know masks dont stop it all but at least I knew I had tried.
Dentist was rigorous hygiene. One way in, sanitizer, mask, no sitting in waiting room (wait outside and dont enter premises until invited). Mask on for initial conversation. Only off for exam then back on again. Replaced plastic covers on credit card machine, sanitizer on way out. Like a military operation.

Recent study in america showed over 50% were able to treat at home... And that is just people who were sick enough to have symptoms and get tested. Plenty of mild cases/asymptomatic possibly missed. Quite a bit of anecdotal evidence too of diabetics not being hospitalised and also some getting positive antibody tests with no previous symptoms. Obviously not to downplay how serious it can be for people with and without diabetes but not a certainty that hospital treatment will be needed

I go to a local farm shop once a fortnight (lots of space, veg stall outside, sanitizer at tills, supportive and considerate staff and cooperative customers); boots once a month (brilliant system, contactless payment, staff in masks, gloves, overalls); otherwise online. Waitrose once near start of lockdown, we’ll managed and sensible customers . Good chat in distanced queue! Tried M&S later on. Staff tried but customer behaviour frightening. Left via self service till without half the shopping. Oh and I finally tracked down a local milkwoman who was willing to add us to the round. Absolute lifesaver! I’ll be continuing the delivery even if/when it’s safe to shop - it’s only fair. Will be continuing these arrangements for the foreseeable future since I see no evidence of increased safety now distance being reduced and lockdown eased even more. Of course there are fewer symptomatic cases - 2 weeks ago we were all staying at home! I feel less safe now than I did a week ago.

I’m quite surprised myself to be honest but my wife’s niece his a paramedic and she advised my wife not to let me go into hospital I struggled for two weeks I’ve never been so ill
