i was diagnosed type 2 a few months ago.at that time and up until 2 days ago i have experienced no symptoms.i started a great low carb diet 6-7 weeks or so ago,but sadly got fed up after 3 weeks and started reverting back to ale, bread products, potatoes wholemeal rice, crisps etc.GOD ITS SO HARD!!! (at least nothing like former amounts tho).still suffered no diabetic symptoms as result.then 2 days ago i drank a lot,ate 5 packs crisps,2 ham sandwiches.pizza and chips.never felt so bad in my life.as the evening and night progressed it felt as if every inch of my body had been pounded with baseball bats.my joints an muscles were screaming, skin v hot.i was getting shivers and spaced out. i thought it was maybe some virus and was finally recovered by morning.started barreling some homebrew next day.ended up drinking a load of it again.only ate a sensible home made chicken an lentil curry tho this time.same result hrs after, same symptoms maybe even worse.pretty much recovered by morning.had my usual bowl of porridge for breakfast and within an hour my muscles started aching more and feeling bit spaced again.
does this sound like my diabetes and its suddenly got really bad? or is it mere coincidence and im suffering a virus.another couple days may tell, but wld really appreciate any thoughts insights as has got me worried.thanks in advance to anyone.rad

Hi, im not in anyway medically knowledgable but, if i ate and drank what you did id be kinda happy to not be dead lol, id say there is a fair to middling chance that yes it was because of your diabetes.....you cant do that anymore, and yes its hard, but easier than being pushed around in a wheel chair with no feet listening to the birds singing because you went blind, sorry if this is harsh, but read up on why you need to control it, its important ***

Wow!
You can't do that no more. Not without it hurting anyway. I know where your'e coming from though, some days were so bad that I would just go out and buy a packet of chocolate biscuits. I never managed to get through the pack though as I would be semi-concious before I could finish them. Times are better now. You are a diabetic my friend, listen to the people here, most of us have been where you are. Some of us might even dip our toes back in a bit...

Yes it really is hard....but you can do it.....things can improve for you but you have to take control...get as much support as you can.....:) I am really new to this so just want to wish you Lots of luck and think the support on the posts are really helpful.....

Hi. You need to make some changes! First get hold of a meter so you know what your blood sugar is at any given time. In general diabetes has no obvious symptoms unless at the extremes of hypo or hyperglycemia, so the meter is essential. Your diet is a bit out of control? There is lots of info on the forum for having a low'ish carb diet. That means keeping much of what you eat to small portions and only having pizzas and crisps very occasionally. Bread, sandwiches and so on are high carb so be sensible with these. Vegetables are good so is protein. The good news is that alcohol isn't a problem in sensible quantity.

i now realise it wasnt my diabetes, was just coincidence.had picked up a bug.most likely the mild form of weils disease from drinking out of a stream 4 days earlier up on the north cornish coast.knew it wasnt ideal as not deep and fast flowing enough but was desperate.
still, at least has got me back into low carb eating again.and cut beer down. will ask Dr about self testing kit so can get idea of effect of beer and different food types.however dont want my life to become swallowed up by diabetes management tho.the human body is an amazing thing,im sure it will greatly repair itself with sensible eating, further weight loss and exercise.

Good positive mental attitude. If you feel pain that means you're still alive. Rejoice, Hallelujah.

Self flagellation is popular in some Christian sects and I have heard of it's use during episodes of the Plague, but diabetes is a new one on me. Still, if it stops you reaching out for that Mars Bar .....

Well you see the benefits of cutting down the carbs to begin with and you see what happens when you don't bother anymore. It takes time to build up again by the way, but build up it surely will.

As others have said, get a meter, test yourself and learn what does and does not work for you. Whilst you are doing this, get hold of a a book called "Favourite One-Pot and Slow-Cook Meals". It has lots of recipes which are all based about throwing in all the ingredients into one bowl, whether that be a salad bowl or a slow cooker. It's not specifically for diabetics, but it does tell you the calorie, carbohydrate and fat values for each meal. So at less than a tenner, you have a good easy to follow guide. More importantly, as you start to use a meter and see your blood sugar levels fall over the weeks and months, you will learn that eating the right foods can be tasty and healthy.

One thing you should remember to do though is drink plenty of water. Some of that feeling you describe sounds like dehydration, something you get as your body reacts by getting you to pass water a lot to get rid of the excess glucose. I use to wonder why I felt like I had a hangover when I hadn't even had anything to drink.

Mini, if your life doesn't get swallowed by diabetes management it will likely be swallowed by death but not before immense pain, amputation etc.

Sorry if this sounds harsh but it won't have to change you as a person, yes you have to change lifestyle a little but at least you have the chance. Drink plays a big role in your posts, I used to love a big old drink, now I just drink better stuff in moderation...
