Atorvastatin and muscle pains

. . . . . . I stopped reading once I reached the word 'naturopath'.:)
Shame, you don't have to believe everything you read, but I think it's important to know what anyone is saying whether you believe it or not.
Last week my neighbour tried to tell me that I was an idiot for consulting a reflexologist and naturally I was defensive, I've spent a fair bit, but at the same time I have seen vast improvements in the state of my back by way of less muscular spasms and less sciatica. More importantly my neighbour had never had a session of reflexology, he muttered something about the power of prayer and I'm not commenting on that because I don't know.

Hi @desidiabulum I've been thinking.... If I were you I would ask myself why your heart specialist didn't mention CoQ10 to you? Here's the first source I googled...

http://www.healthline.com/health/coq10-and-statins#Overview1

It's a recognised supplement that's used as a treatment for the heart and many other conditions. It seems odd to me that a heart specialist doesn't even mention it when prescribing statins. I would have thought the gentler the treatment the better? Anyhow, you and I obviously have different opinions re these matters and that's fine, it would be a boring world if we were all the same. I'm not looking to convert you into my way of thinking or looking for an argument. I just thought I'd mention it before leaving your thread.

Good luck with your consultant

best wishes

Maybe it's just an Australian thing, but almost all pharmacies here have either pamphlets or Co-Q10 supplements displayed on the main dispensing counter explaining why they're good for heart health and why anyone on statins should be taking them.

They will pry Co-Q10 from my cold dead hand now that I know (by trial and error) that it controls my high BP better than prescriptions medications.

I initially to CoQ10 when taking statins, in my case it made no difference to my muscle pain and there are two possible reasons. Nobody could tell me how much I should take although I believe the max recommended is about 3gms per day. Secondly, there was some debate as to whether ingesting CoQ10 by swallowing a pill was the best delivery system.

Nowadays I take it for my heart health, I don't have problems as shown by ECGs, treadmill ECG and a heart echo cardiogram, but reading how much the Japanese rely on CoQ10 for their heart patients, there has to be something in it. The interesting thing is that my BP is pretty good while I'm taking it, but I ran out recently and have noticed there's a tendency for my BP to go haywire. I need to get some more and see what happens then.

That's exacctly what happened to me - I ran out and forgot to get more and suddenly I had high BP again. I then tried a few more BP meds from the GP and after we got to calcium channel blockers and ghastly headaches, I googled "natural supplements for BP" and Co-Q10 popped up. It was a bit of a Eureka (aka 'DOH you idiot') moment for me. Now I always make sure I have a reserve supply on hand.

Hi zand. I like you and admire what you do -- that's why it doesn't matter if we don't agree on everything. I won't speculate on why the surgeon didn't mention CoQ10 to me (there are some extra oddities to my heart condition), but given what you, graj0 and Indy51 say I will certainly ask about it next time I meet with him. Many thanks to all of you for your helpful replies and for taking the trouble to write.:)

Hi, I'm awaiting my doctors phone call from a blood test I had done last Monday to see if atoravastatin has had an effect on me since I started taking them a month ago.
I'm not certain about if I have had side effects, but I have been a bit more tired.

I would recommend you to speak to your GP!
Because my doctor is on holiday and I've run out of the statin, I've decided to stop taking them.
I have also decided to stop them because of I'm not feeling as good as I was before taking them. I feel more tired, my energy drains quicker and I've started getting joint pain and muscle pain in my calfs in the morning.
I was never happy taking them and I tried. I will see what happens, I have a very heavy workload these next three weeks and I need to be as good as possible.
I will speak to my GP, and depending on our conversation, I might get in touch with my consultant.

I have just had the conversation with another GP at my surgery.
Regarding the statin I was taking.
She has agreed with my assessment, that I should not need to take it.

I'm really happy with my test results as well, as my liver function came back as normal, in fact the doctor was interested in how I had achieved this!

The doctor commented on how my weight loss (over 6 kilos!) Had coincided with all my good readings of my vital signs.
The doctor couldn't even quite understand, how and why, my Hba1c was 'normal'!

That's one less pill to take in the morning! Yippee! Woohoo!:):):):)

Over 6kg weightloss is a good chunk of weight when as I do .. I imagine that weight in packs of butter or bags of sugar...

Also.. One less tablet in mornings has to be great.

You deserve it all the good results.

Thanks again dd!

The wife is threatening me with being force fed. If I lose much more!

My boss is worried that I might fall through the flood drains (grids) if I'm not careful!

Just think jealousy is playing a part in their statements!;)
