Hi,
I'm new to this! I have been diagnosed with pre Diabetes 2. I am 46 5'11" 11 and a half stone and healthy. The only change is I had a full hysterectomy including Ovaries. I have low energy. Does anyone know if this can be connected? I know I've put a few pounds on since my op, but I have a healthy diet. My only downfall until New Year was I was getting partial to a few glasses of wine!
 
Hello @kate856body welcome to the forum.
It could be that the healthy diet is the problem. HCPs are so fixated on low fat and lots of carbohydrates that it takes some doing to go against it, but eating steak and mushrooms for breakfast seem to be the way to lower blood glucose and reduce weight.
I avoid grains, starchy vegetables and high sugar fruits and anything indicating it is over 10% carbohydrate, and seem to do very well on it.
 
Hi @kate856body and welcome to the forum. We cannot diagnose here, so I would just advise a chat with your GP. It may not be your pre diabetes at all. I do wonder if removing your ovaries has put you into menopause, that maybe why you’re feeling rough?

Type 2 diabetes normally occurs after decades of eating more carbohydrates than our bodies can easily cope with. This doesn't start to show until either Insulin resistance starts to show, or the pancreas after an heroic attempt to create enough insulin to meet the demand starts to give up the unequal struggle. As is taught in schools, all digestible carbohydrates break down into glucose when eaten - think of a starch molecule (like flour or potato) as just lots of glucose molecules holding hands.
However there are lots of thing apart from food which can also raise Blood Glucose (just not so much). They include:
Illness or injury
Stress or lack of sleep
Medications such as Steroids and Statins
In addition, in the early weeks almost every adult with raised Blood Glucose is diagnosed as Type 2 and only later are they re-diagnosed as Type 1 (which is caused by the immune system attacking the cells in the pancreas which create Insulin).
For an ordinary Type 2 (the large majority, a pre-diabetes tat can easily be reversed by eating a little more Protein and Fat and less sugars and starches which include breakfast cereals and fruit juices (juices are just as high is sugar as is a sugary soda).

Hi,

I was diagnosed in 2020 with Type 2 in my early 30's and only very marginally overweight if it's any consolation. This forum so far has been great for information.

It takes time for your body to recover from a hysterectomy. And if your ovaries were removed but you weren't given HRT that throws you into a sudden menopause instead of slowly adjusting to falling hormones (I found that very difficult).

I was recommended to use the Eatwell plate by a dietitian after I was diagnosed T2 - but I knew that was not the best solution. Actually, it would be part of the problem for those of us who would struggle with carbohydrates. I switched to low carb, with more protein and some more fat and mostly unprocessed or slightly processed foods and after the initial 'keto flu' I felt a lot better.

HNY! Have you had your thyroid checked at all? Under active might be causing your tiredness, just a thought.
