BBC 2 Tonight at 9pm

Amazing at last the beeb is letting the cat out of the bag!! the main cause of Obesity SUGAR and the food manufacturers shoving it down our throats, I think everything broadcast tonight we all know is the truth on here. I just sat there and knew exactly what was coming next all through it because I have already read it all.

I was so pleased! At last someone has come out and stated the obvious. Let's hope it stirs things up a bit.

Just a pity that it was never mentioned that sugar is a carbohydrate . . . never mind, one step at a time!

PS I'd love to have a go at that brain scan thing - would be nice to know what my brain really fancies, as half of those flash-slides made my conscious mind want to throw up!

I thought it was very good and looking forward to watching the next two episodes :)

Hi Lorna

All carbs are sugar - or at least, are converted into glucose, which is a sugar, in the body. But "sugar" as we eat it is only one of the foods that make up the group we call carbohydrates. Anything with an "-ose" on the end is a sugar. Table sugar is made up of glucose and fructose.

The programme talked about sugar all the time, and didn't mention that an excess of any carbohydrate gets converted into fat too. In my experience, most people think of "sugar" as quite different from other carbs such as bread and potatoes etc. Until the dread diabetes gets them and they have to understand it pretty quickly - assuming they are given the correct information in the first place!

Let's not go down that one . . . :D . Maybe the second or third programmes will include carbohydrates as well.

The context in which they put it was more aimed at sugar and HFCS along with fructose, I think we all know on here carbohydrates equate to sugar, but I felt that more emphasis should have been put on carbohydrate intake, as some people don't know they are one and the same. maybe the next episodes will go into that a little deeper, but still a good informative stab at the root cause one can only hope people will wake up and smell the unsweetened coffee, Dr Robert Lustig never fails to get the massage across, think he is spot on.
