Actually, re the "bit" I wrote for PRG site, I'm feeling very "got at" with the replies/comments I'm getting. They're all very patronising, as if I hadn't spent months reading, discussing and assessing the situation and finding out what works for me. I almost wish I hadn't bothered - the "almost" being because if I hadn't, I'd still be thinking I should! I don't think I'll answer anyone else on there, as I don't want a fight on my hands. It isn't dialogue, just people telling me I need to gen up on my need for carbs and find out from professionals how to deal with my DB. Oh heck... feeling fragile about it all now. Makes me realise how mentally strong Hana is when she goes places and tells people what for and survives! What I need is for some of you other ladies to register and make a comment, I think. Sort of equalise it!

Hi dg,
I think where you went wrong here is that you tried to demonize carbs altogether, based on your own experience and judgement over the last few months.
As always, it is best to remember that what works for one, may not neccesarily work for another, as with everything in life, moderation is the key. Therefore, it is pleasing that you have found a way to manage your diabetes with little or no carbs, but you have to remember that other people manage to achieve successful results by adapting their own diet and approach also. A low-carb diet is only one of many ways to manage and control diabetes, but if others choose to include carbs in doing so, that is their choice, it is wrong for others to preach or dictate on what foodstuff to eat and drink. (by the way, you are a million miles away from this). There is no reason why people with diabetes should exclude nutrient dense carbs from their diet, as long as it doesn't impact on blood glucose. Only by experiementing and testing can one establish which diet is suitable to their needs.
I think personally, why diets such as Atkins and others go wrong, is that they are too restrictive in their approach to food. Such nonsense as excluding root vegtables from your diet because they contain carbs is utterly crazy, likewise with the advice about replacing carbs with fat, is it any wonder that people who follow these diets often fail miserably.
Dragongirl, with the greatest of respect, I wouldn't try to follow other people's stance on subject matters, often you will find that they are preaching to a very small captive audience, and many like myself see their approach as offensive and dictatorial. Just be pleased with what you have achieved, and remember that we are all individuals with opinions of our own.
Best wishes
Nigel
