Blood Glucose Advice

Unfortunately, I've just been told by my doctor to take 10 units of novorapid per meal. Sometimes I think that maybe a bit too much and I usually have one hypo per day. I would love to be able to count carbs and work out the correct insulin dosage, but the doctor didn't seem keen when I asked him about it.

Sorry I have enough trouble getting my head around what I have, that I know next to nothing about T1.

Does it mention that it is unsweetened? I used to use Soya yoghurt a few years ago and that was unsweetened. But I know a lot of companies that add sugar to Soya products to make it taste nicer. It can be very annoying, can't it?

I know, I heard a while back that there was supposed to be a crack down on the amount of sugar being put into foods, but nothing seems to have happened.

Unfortunately, the government was bought off by the food industry to defer it again.
Until the powers that be understand that the food industry is slowly killing the population in this country, nothing will happen. Too many invested interests in the political parties.

Yes, that is true. That's why I switched from cow's milk to unsweetened Soya milk. Cows milk has 5g of carbs per 100ml, and unsweetened Soya milk just 0.2g of carbs per 100ml.
I find Soya milk delicious, so it's win win for me ;)

I've tried unsweetened almond milk, and I've never tasted anything so disgusting !! I've never tried soya milk, can you describe the taste?

I buy the Tesco value Soya milk. It's in the long life milk section if you're ever tempted to try it.

I find it to be quite creamy with a slight nutty flavour.

When used to make porridge, you can't tell it's not cows milk. It's also good in tea and coffee.

Give it a chance, its only 59p. Word of advice though, I bought the Asda smartprice one and it's vile. I really don't recommend that one. Sorry Asda! Haha!

Every time I added unsweetened Soya 'milk' to a fresh coffee it went into lumps - just like sour milk.

I have a thing about low bedtime readings, so when it happens (nearly every night :-)) I have 30 grams of Rice Crispies with Alpro Chocolate Soya 'milk'. Hope it's low tonight...

I've never had any trouble with Soya milk.

So it was curdling in your hot drinks? What make were you using? I've never had Alpro products before.

What's it like just to drink? Can you taste the difference then

If you look at noshers comments earlier it states "which turns to sugar is the crucial one". But in any case the soya yoghurt is still 10g per 100, the lower fat one was 3.5

How many grams of fibre does the Soya yoghurt you've looked at have? Fibre is a form of carbohydrate that isn't digested, therefore, you shouldn't get much of a spike if the Soya yoghurt has a lot of fibre in it. But everyone is different. I'm afraid it's down to trial and error.

I quite like the taste of it just to drink. But if you weren't keen on almond milk, I'm not sure you'd like Soya milk. If you like to drink cows milk, opt for full fat. It contains less carbs. And then maybe you could use Soya milk in drinks and cereal?

Which sugars is the crucial one, but all carbs convert to sugar. Myself, carbs are a poison to me and I have to stay away from them. I only get my carbs from low GI fruit and veg. You have to have them, but not many and the fat you eat converts what you need.
Which sugars is the crucial one, BUT ALL CARBS turn to sugar!!!

Hi
I bought the Soya (alpro) simply plain yoghurt today
Carbs- 2.1
Fibre- 1.0
Fat- 2.3
Tastes orett5y good, also eat the Fage 0% too

I might give that a try. I haven't seen Fage that JessD mentioned, I'm not sure about the alpro though, our supermarket had the alpro unsweetened almond milk so they might have other alpro products
