Blood Sugar in High 20's and GP not helping, please advise

Scottie, can you get hold of the little book entitled : carbs and cals by chris cheyette and yello balolia it is so helpful to us in counting carbs and cals ?

Scottie

I doubt whether you are going to lower your readings much more just low carbing.... You need to check out your new gp sooner rather than later...

I called the practice we had applied to today and they said we are not in the correct postal area so called one up that was and hubby has to go tomorrow and get some forms. It was too late today as he was due to set off to work, so will get them tomorrow.

What are you thinking Donnelly, that there is something wrong I don't know about?

Your levels are still too high after low carbing. I think you need medication to help you as well as the low carbing..

Only as a type 1 I know how **** ill I feel if something goes wrong with my pump and I hit a 20..i know I feel absolutely **** and nigh on in a coma at those levels.

You are struggling through on a daily basis from16 upward and honest I know you've come down a substantial amount but these levels are needing medication.

You can always get levels down with meds and then from low carbing further and consistently you may find a reduction or that you may be able to come off them. Currently though I seriously believe you need meds as well as a priority.

Yes that is a given scottie, you need to do this with your doc's approval and any further meds they prescribe.

Hi wendy, are you on any meds for diabetes yet ?

Wendy
Are you T1 or T2? You may get more responses if posting on T1 if you are a T1..

However if you say what insulin regime you are on it would help.. But you really need to see your healthcare team..

I agree and i think sooner rather than later

Wendys post just reiterates for me as to why you need help asap Scottie with meds to help your higher levels too....

Incidentally Scottie.. Your old GP and nurse know nothing anout you changing GP's until the CCG tell them. As you have not got to that stage yet, then your old GP and nurse need to see you.. You are still registered with them.. Please just see your old GP in the interim...

I ordered Carbs & Cals a few days ago, it arrived yesterday, sunday. What a good book. Boy have I got my portion size so wrong. Eg. Oven chips 10g carbs. 54 cals thats only 7 chips.
It shows a plate with the amount of food on.
Hope your book arrives soon Scottie

Yep, its very eye opening as to portions etc, just whats needed eh!

Phoned GP - cannot get an appointment till next Wednesday with either Nurse or GP. Told receptionist about my BG, she looked on PC and said I'd been given 2 x extra Gliclazide for 2 weeks so it wasn't urgent.

BG on waking 19.1.
