Blood Sugar in High 20's and GP not helping, please advise

Scottie i will definitely be sticking around, I have much to learn from you! Did you feel hungry when you were first doing low carb. I know im eating but im not satisfied. I have this empty feeling in my stomach that is telling me im hungry even when I know I can't be!

Are you eating enough fat Muggie? It is fat that satiates us. Carbs just make us hungry. If you feel hungry, have a bit of cheese with some Hellman's mayo as a dip. Some people swear by Babybell cheese as a snack because they are so handy and ready measured portioned out. Personally I don't like them.

I still find I'm hungry Muggle, it's just a matter of finding foods that are low in carbs, that I like.

Bluetit's suggestion is a good one, I just don't like cold cheese, may have some cooked cheese on Ryvita crisp breads.

BG 2 hours after lunch is 14.2, had 292 calories and no carbs today. I really must read my books, no excuses

By the way, is it normal not to sleep when first low-carbing? Didn't sleep at all last night or the night before. This is my 6th full day of LC's.

Hi Muggle,
When I feel hungry (rarely) or have cravings (too often) I take the advice I've had on the forum to try a couple of nuts or some cream in my coffee. I have to watch it though, as I could happily munch all the nuts (very expensive and not good for my weight) or drink all the cream (ditto).

Hope you find something that works for you.

Hello Muggle

Lovely to meet you, I have just read your thread and identified with all you had to say. It's really hard isn't it? But please don't worry, you will soon get in the swing of things, the people on these forums are brilliant and so eager to help. My work isn't finished yet but it has improved so much. Like you, I found it so difficult to imagine eating low carbs and high fat, it's not what we are conditioned to believe is it? But I feel so much better already, though I have still to find lots more food I can eat but that will come with time. I plan to be around on this forum for the long term and hope you will be too.

You have done so well in posting for the first time, like me, you realise that something needs to be done and we can both make our journey together, we are the same age so that will help also. I have found that no question is too silly to ask, everybody is so supportive (as you can see from the posts on here) and kind.

I'm touched that my thread has inspired you, thank you, that means a lot. You can do it and you will, like me there will be ups and downs, for instance leading on from my BG last night, I woke this morning to find it at 17.1 so that was a kick but I know it's reducing so am determined to see it through.

It's one of the best things I have done, joining this forum. I didn't imagine there could be this much help, as my GP's don't seem bothered. I actually joined years ago but like you, have buried my head in the sand for too long.

Look forward to seeing you around and tracking your progress, please take care xx
Proud of you scottie::))

Clive, you have such a wealth of knowledge. Do you know if there is a low carb horlick type drink?
I would like a warm drink at bedtime, but, I don't like chocolate type drinks and one of my antibiotics says not to have milk at the s aa me tme. Yes strange, but true. Wine late at night keeps me awake.
Any ideas Clive ?
Cheers Milly

Proud of me Clive, for what?

Milly, I normally do read and have been doing so, it's just not helping at the moment :(. It's so frustrating but hopefully will pass.

Will try cocoa, what does cream taste like? Is it similar to milk?

This girl is obviously too young to remember the cream on top of the milk.
Scottie, I bet you have never seen the bluetits pecking the top of the milk bottles.

In a way similar. But much creamier.

Haha Milly, I do remember getting milk in bottle delivered. I'm not that young (I wish I was though).

My breakfast omelette was fried in butter. Ive had my omelette and some chicken and peppers in a maggi seasoning bag for dinner so far today. How have I done?

How are you today Clive?
Just got back home , i'm a private hire lux' minibus driver scottie, had coca cola exec's on board today doing site visits to various london stores, they seemed quite proud of the sugar based rubbish they sell ( how i kept my mouth shut i don't know)
Had private doc give me prostate a check( tears) said what we already knew " found a lump on prostate it needs surgery " so next wed it is! :(

You've done really well Muggle xx Though I think you need to eat a bit more. Do you have any plans in case you feel like snacking later?

Also, try myfitnesspal, it tells you how many calories you can eat (in my case, 1200) and carbs etc. You can change the amount of carbs it tells you, for instance, my originally said 156g of carbs so I changed it to 60g. You can also log any amount of excercise, no matter how light. I have found it really useful this last 3 days - it has 4 million foods listed. Credit to Clive though.
