Blood Sugar in High 20's and GP not helping, please advise

Please do something. Ring 111 or whatever the number is for advice. Or get the out of hours Dr to come out. It is not safe to be alone with the risk of another blackout.

Thank you all for your concern.

Husband now stopping at home tonight, thank goodness and have spoken to GP who told me to double my dose of Gliclazide and made me an appointment to see him tomorrow morning. I also have to take a urine sample.

At least he is at home with you. If you feel ill tonight do get long to A and E.

Thank you. I think I have been burying my head in the sand for too long now.

I have never felt so ill as I do now, and if nothing else, this have has given me the reason to take it seriously.

If I feel ill, I will go to the A&E.

This has really made me want to be part of a community so I am sure, once this has passed, I will be asking lots more question as a lot of things have not been explained to me by the medical team. Maybe it is time to switch GPs.

I'd go to A&E now. You are ill. Passing out isn't a sign that all is well. Why wait for your condition to get worse and then react? The GP has been too relaxed about this so I'd take matters into your own hand.

If you start to feel worse, and especially if you feel you are going to pass out, you should dial 999 and ask for a paramedic. Don't take any risks.

Hello

I am not feeling so bad at the moment, my BG was 21.0 this morning so has gone down a small bit.

I have been to the GP's and the positive thing is that there were no Ketones in my urine.

Otherwise, I am in tears as the GP has had a right go at me, telling me I need to eat 3 sideplates of food a day and have to see the Diabetic nurse in two weeks (who terrifies me). He was very stern with me and says I have to get on top of controlling my diabetes.

I know I need to lose a lot of weight and be more active, I just don't know how. That may sound stupid to some peope but it's true.

I do not eat a great deal, I have porrige for my breakfast and then my dinner at 5.00pm ish. I drink tea and No Added Sugar Ribena.

My weight is of a great concern to me, I thought about trying LighterLife but at £66 per week, I could not justify it. My mum has suggested Slimming World - I shall have to do some research.

I suppose I have to change the way I think about food, and about excercise. I just don't know where to start. I feel the surgery isn't supportive.

Rambled on a bit, haven't I? Apologies.

Hi scottie, very glad to hear your ok :) , most of the posters here are on the low carb high fat regime allied to eating to their meters, this works very well , did you see the info that @ daisy1 gives out to posters here? Its very informative with links to good advice, my weight has gone down from 16st 7 lbs to 13st 1 lb and most of the people who stick with lchf get good results both weight wise and bs's , mine went down from 25.5 to 5.5 in about 8 wks, please ask any questions you need too, keep posting ::))

I'm so relieved you are OK, and thanks for the update.

I agree you need to change the way you think about food. The easiest way to control your diabetes and lose weight is to drop the carbs, and you could start by changing your breakfast. Porridge is not a wise choice for most people. It is full of carbs and will raise your BS levels, especially if made with milk. Tea is fine, but scrap the Ribena. Pour it all away. There may be no added sugar, but there is natural sugar in it, a lot of it. For breakfast try a Greek yogurt (plain and unsweetened) and add a few berries (raspberries, strawberries or a few blueberries) plus nuts or seeds if you wish. This should see you through to lunch time with a couple of cups of tea and will do your blood sugars no end of good.

Please have a read of this easy to understand thread http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/a-new-low-carb-guide-for-beginners.68695/ It should help you make a start.

Hi @scottie1 I think you should consider changing your GP and/or getting another opinion, his behaviour is appalling when you need support.

You don't need to pay for expensive diet programmes which will just persist in having you eat carbohydrates. A much better investment would be Trudi Deakin's book linked below (£9.99) or the Dietdoctor website (free!).

Ahh, I was under the impression (why I don't know) that I had to eat lots of carbs.

So glad I posted yesterday.

I will have a read of those links, thank you so much.

I will be stopping around, this site and it's users, are so helpful. Can't believe the support I have had already. Thank you.
