Bullet proof coffee

Thank you!
Very helpful
Beaver Lee
Mine consists of:
30g coconut oil and 30g butter in a tall mug, then fill half the mug full of coffee. Whisk well, until you have a good creamy froth on top (this is essential, as it creamifies the coffee). Top up and enjoy.

We did try this this morning though I forgot the quantities, and put only a third in.
Our son liked it anyway, even though it was using Goat's milk butter which is salted!
Next time I will increase the coconut oil.
When you say half fill with coffee, is this espresso, or two shots of espresso with added hot water?
Thanks again,
Beaver Lee

Whilst fully supporting bullet proof coffee (or in my case bullet resistant with only cream and butter) I am going to give it a rest for a couple of weeks.

I think I am acclimatised now, and instead of replacing food with the coffee I am eating as normal plus drinking the coffee.
Also, I am starting to get butter cravings!

Anyway, I seem to be putting on weight and I will cut out the coffee for a couple of weeks to see if this makes a difference.

Cheers

Thanks Kezzer. I tried a lot of nuts last week but somehow it raised my readings. Not sure why. I love peanut butter though :)
Hi, you may know this but just in case, peanuts are a member of the bean family and are quite carby. Almonds are a better choice, and good heart food. Good luck

No no no. I love peanuts. Salted ones differ in carbs depends on make as does peanut butter. Lowest I've had is 4.5g per 100g..from asda. Asda crunchy peanut butter. Yummy :smug:

Ok friends I'm going to do a week on this. As per @Brunnaria advice got really posh coffee to try and stop the spaced out feeling..so I've just made it and properly with butter and coconut oil and frothed it up and put it in a warmed thermos...I have to say no oily taste at all. Just creamy and lovely.
1 hour in. Bright energetic and no hunger! Will post as I go on..no greasy feeling this time in my tummy either.. I'm doing this as I really don't want to lose any more weight and I've tried upping protein but its turning into glucose and raised my readings. I'm on 45 g of carb. So trying to up fats a bit..too much cheese makes me nauseous so making brilliant green and rainbow salads and putting ceasar dressings and olive oil on...watch this space..I lost a further 2 lbs this week so really needed to stop it. No more carbs. No extra protein leaves fats. So extra adventurous ways will be interesting. Wish me luck? :(
Id like to know more about this coffee, its got my attention.

It's amazing how you get to like things. Espresso coffee with coconut oil sounds so odd. Yet we have acquired a taste for it! Whilst our son (T1) goes for a short run early I use an electric hand whisk to whisk up a dessert spoon of coconut oil with a shot of espresso coffee in the bottom of a tall mug, When he gets in he has this with hot water added to treble the amount. It keeps him going for an hour or two until breakfast.
I get one too.
:)

aha, i have coconut oil here so will give it a blast ;-)

Call me cheap and cheerful .... I've never been accused of having much finesse.
Instant coffee in this house .... Nescafe.
There's a coffee machine .... I think it went back in it's box and in the shed to much fiffing about.
Anyway.
Make a cup of coffee.
Bung a teaspoon or table spoon of butter in to your liking.
If you fancy and I often do put an equal measure of coconut oil in too.
Mix it up real well I use a hand spinner thingy.
I then put it in the micro to heat it back up.
Remember butter is just churned cream.
Wife can turn a tub of cream into a pat of ready to use butter in less than fifteen minutes.

Missed a bit .... I do it in a jug to avoid being messy .... I have a wife who might kill me.

Essentially, a hot coffee, plus two tablespoons of butter made from the milk of grass fed cows, plus a tablespoon of MCT (medium chain triglyceride) oil. Then you stick it in a blender until it's all emulsified. The makers of Bulletproof® Coffee would prefer you to use their coffee because of all sorts of claims that they make, and it does seem that the drink made has become known as Bulletproof coffee in the same way that all vacuum cleaners tend to be called hoovers. A registered mark has become the name of the thing.

Google "Bulletproof Coffee" for further recipes as well as several articles recommending it and several articles telling you why it's bad for you. Like anything and everything on the internet, there seems to be a lot of **** written without much empirical evidence. There certainly doesn't seem to be any evidence to suggest that it helps stabilise BG. As for boosting energy, who knows. As for weight loss, there is some empirical evidence that MCT oil is burned more readily than other fats and you could look at http://nutritionreview.org/2013/04/medium-chain-triglycerides-mcts/ for more details. Two tablespoons of butter is 200 calories and 1 tablespoon of MCT oil is a bit less, so there's nearly 300 calories in your morning cup of coffee.

I use coconut milk in coffee sometimes, but 2 tablespoons of grass fed butter and a tablespoon of MCT wouldn't be great for my insides, just too much fat that my innards can't tolerate.
It would be interesting to see if anyone can provide empirical evidence as to it's claims.

Much more to this coffee than meets the eye.

Wednesday and Thursday this week mine was made with about 50-75ml single cream, a dessert spoon of coconut oil, into a jam jar topped up to 2/3 with coffee and shaken vigorously.

Then topped up with coffee in a big mug.

Seemed easier than an electric whisk and cleaner.

I've done it with butter as well and find that I prefer the President slightly salted - who'd have thought salty coffee?

Mine consists of:-
30g coconut oil and 30g butter (grass fed is best) in a tall mug, then fill half the mug full of coffee (filter or cafeteria coffee is best). Whisk well (I use a battery hand whisker), until you have a good creamy froth on top (this is essential, as it creamifies the coffee). Top up and enjoy. I often add a little double cream to it as well.

But be careful with it!
I have found that collies love coffee too, Result wired dog!!
:p:p

So did one little Cavalier puppy - my 10 week old was into everything and before I could stop him drank the dregs of my (fortunately decaff!) coffee then promptly threw up all over the rug... But as a little 'un he was well wired anyway, though fortunately he calmed down as he got older.

One of my ex-bosses used to sometimes bring her cat into work - we had to watch our coffee at break time as he' d be up on our desks having a little slurp at any momentarily unattended mug! He never went for the tea though...:D

With my collie, It's full strength (4 or 5) hi strength with coconut oil that she loves.

Try to keep them to a teaspoon of coconut oil a day for their coats, but little one keeps trying to snaffle my bulletproof:rolleyes:
