Bullet proof coffee

Having to give up the coffee for the meantime. Sadly. Wondering if the flare up with my ms is caused by industrial amounts of coffee...will knock it on the head for a week and see if it makes a difference. Then maybe try again...( sobs in corner.. my coffee. My precious! ).......

I'm sorry to hear this @alliebee especially if the coffee is the culprit in your flare up. I'm sticking with this, but preferring @nomistheman's recipe and his breakdown of components. I've never been an advocate of industrial amounts of anything, preferring a gentler approach. I hope things settle down with your MS soon so that you can rekindle your love affair with your beloved coffee...:)

I certainly can't claim it's bulletproof, (probably 'wet paper bag' for comparison), but I am drinking a lot of black coffee, at the moment.
I fancied a switch from the normal instant, which I usually have with milk, but didn't taste right black.
Argos sell a coffee maker for £10, (it actually cost me a fiver, as I bought a new printer for £50, got a voucher for £5, then bought the coffee maker).
A couple of jars, and two different types of pre ground coffee, and I can pass minutes making coffee instead when I'm thinking about food!
(Only downside is it doesn't keep the pot very hot, but I never liked scalding drinks, so it's ok to me)

@Lenny3 if you fancy a cheap coffee maker to give it a shot, this fits the bill.

Well I gave it a go yesterday, because of no gall bladder I daren't go butter and coconut oil, so I did a tsp of coconut oil and dollop of single cream, I must admit it was delicious and so I had a second cup, whilst I wasn't rushing round like a steam train I did get a lift and more importantly it kept my numbers stable at 4.6 from my yoghurt and linwoods breakfast through soup and ham at lunch time to falafel and salad at dinner time, I am impressed with that, the down side is it didn't stop me from feeling hungry at the usual times and I ended up with a muzzy head not quite a migraine but close, which is quite unusual for me as it was perky coffee, as I am guaranteed a migraine with instant coffee, but it was so nice I may try the experiment again over the weekend just to check it wasn't the weather that gave me the muzzy head. Will report back after.

Try upping the fat content... Double cream rather than single?. More coconut oil?

Much as I'd love too I have various tum probs, IBS, Diverticulitis, Hiatus Hernia, and no gall bladder, also had a quad bypass in 2002, so have to be very careful of the amount of fat I eat, only allowed 5grm of fat daily, but I'm not giving up on it just yet.

Hi there, I also have very similar conditions, DV had a diversion in 2003, and x5 cabg in 97, gladly I still have my gall bladder, is that the main reason for only 5mg fat daily ? This diabetes is just a long line of ailments it's good to know I'm not the only one :-) take care

Not sure where, the bullet proof coffee, got to in this thread.
Folks, worry not. There are several people on here with health problems other than diabetes, and a suite of drug therapy to cover and support them.
Now - back to bullet proof coffee ?

Pardone moi :-) onwards and upwards I cannot find any deodorised coconut oil as yet...my local deli only has the normal coconut oil, so before I buy, does it taint the coffee taste much ?

Would the bullet coffee be a sufficient breakfast and would it be enough to take supplements that say take with food?

The pure coconut oil in larger Tesco stores at £1.50 per large jar is oderless and tasteless of coconut

Bulletproof coffee alone is around 500 calories. More than many breakfasts.

Sorry to hear that @alliebee could also be the dairy products not helping.

Thanks Ian, 500 is plenty! Would you say it is sufficient to line stomach for taking suppluments that call for taking with food? Is coconut oil or butter a food despite turning liquid?

Thanks Ian, it would be great as a weekly treat, I'm trying to keep to 1200 calories a day, and between 40 - 50 g of carbs, fats today are 51% , so on a daily basis I think it's a no no until I get my weight back under control.

It was a case of trial and error with the fat allowance, they said I could go low fat milk and butter, can't stomach marg but that's another story, and I had to experiment with amounts till I came up with 5grm, more than this I get acid tum and this amount means my tum is kept happy not aggravating my IBS or diverticulitis, and I can drink my tea with milk, I'm a tea freak, and I can also have my coffee with dollops of cream,

Actually its quite a pleasant taste, coffee with just a hint of coconut, mind I only put in a teaspoon of oil, how it would be with more I'm not sure.

Hi,
Please may i ask ...
What is your recipe for Bullet Proof coffee?
I have tried coconut oil, but with butter it may well go down as a hit with our son.
Very interesting that proteins turn to glucose.
Thanks for your post
Beaver Lee

Mine consists of:
30g coconut oil and 30g butter in a tall mug, then fill half the mug full of coffee. Whisk well, until you have a good creamy froth on top (this is essential, as it creamifies the coffee). Top up and enjoy.
