I'm sure there's more.
If my fasting reading is in the high fives or more I have a bullet proof coffee for breakfast or egg or cheese.
If it's five and below I have porridge.
Eating to my meter from the start of the day.

Hi JACKTHELAD,

I wonder if you'd be good enough to tell me how you make your bulletproof coffee. What brands etc do you use & what recipe do you follow? I've been reading a lot about them & as I tend to have higher fasting BG, I'd like to see if having a BPC helps me gain better control. It's got to be worth a try. When I've looked at recipes online, it's been via the Bulletproof website, which sells the ingredients. However, they're very expensive. I'm hoping there's a cheaper but equally as effective list of ingredients. Thanks.

Alison.

Alison ... dead cheap me.
Nescaffe instant coffee made the normal way with a tablespoon of unsalted best quality butter thrown in.
Just a good name brand of butter preferably grass fed and no salt.
You might like the salt I don't in coffee.
I mix it in and re heat it in the micro as the butter tendd to cool it down to much for my asbestos mouth kind of taste.
I sometimes add coconut oil as well.
Be prepared for .... no urges to eat for anything up to eight or nine hours ... not everytime but often.
Also the mental stimulation I find almost illegal and have considered selling it on dodgy street corners!
Give it a go and best of luck.

Hello again JACKTHELAD

I'd buy it from a dodgy bloke on a dodgy street corner. The need for mental stimulation, illegal or otherwise, sounds kinda interesting. Lol. I'm gonna give your recipe a go & see how I get on. I've got a jar of good quality coconut oil, so I'll be chucking that in too. Hopefully it'll not just help with BG, but be useful to aid weight loss too. I'm also on LCHF & want to remain in ketosis. Thanks very much for replying to me so promptly. You're very kind.

are you all mad...butter in your coffee? what is this witchcraft you talk of
Yes we are all mad here Numan but what does that have to do with the price of sugar?
High fat living it's called.
Helps reduce hunger reduce the use of carbs and aids weight loss and .... lowering bad cholesterol levels for some of us.
Remember butter is only cream and nothing more.
My wife can beat a tub of Tesco cream into a block of butter in under fifteen minutes.

I just use normal coffee when I have it with butter and coconut and find it blends better if it's 'whisked' with a stick blender in a bigger jug.

daft question but why not just use cream?
that's what i usually use, but I have no issue with the bulletproof 'fat bomb' coffee. I see it's mainly for maintaining weight. it's not easy getting enough fats.
I don't agree with not having protein of a morning.

in maintainence I'll be on 1500 cal of fats

If I use cream, I need to inject, even for the very small amount of Carbs and Protein. A bulletproof coffee tastes quite delicious, and doesn't require an injection (no Carbs, negligible Protein). Each to their own, of course, but the Bulletproof coffee is a winner for me. :)

Been to Tezzas & bought my bulletproof coffee ingredients. So, gonna give it a whirl for breakfast tomorrow & see how I like it. I've got pure Stevia & top notch vanilla extract for sweetness, as I would usually have brown sugar in a coffee. If I'm still buzzing at midnight I'll vacumn through the house whilst singing karma chameleon & running my pledge fluffy duster over the furniture. Who says I can't multitask!

Possibly I'm poking my nose in where it's not wanted (apologies if so) . . . but if you are trying out a new style with your coffees, might this not be a chance to try it without the sweetness altogether? To me, the taste of the Bulletproof coffee was a revelation, very smooth and very creamy (ironically much more "creamy" tasting than using cream). Might it be worth trying it without the sweetener first time, just to see how your taste buds like it? If it gets a positive then this can only be a good thing.

That's probably a good idea. I'm used to having my hot drinks sweet & have used pure stevia liquid as a plant based sugar substitute for a while now. But, if bulletproof coffee is "smooth & creamy" as you say, I'd be dumb not to try it au-natural first. Guess it'll take some experimenting to find the right balance of ingredients to suit my personal taste. :)

I use decaf, (water decaffeinated) cos I get a bit hyper (massive understatement) on caffeine.

Make it in a cafetiere. I'm a bit of a coffee snob.

Then use unsalted Kerrygold or anchor (grass fed). I'm a bit of a butter snob.

Then use the cheapo coconut oil I found on eBay. I'm a bit of a hypocrite.

Best coffee ever!
