Can dreams affect BS levels?

I know this sounds really silly but can dreams affect our B.S. levels? For many years I've had....how shall I describe it........a very active imagination..dreamwise! Sometimes I have very vivid accurate premonition dreams and sometimes just very distressing dreams. Last night I had such a vivid dream where a bi-plane crashed into the roof of our house (hopefully not a premonition this time though our town hosts an air-show in a few weeks) and it set fire to our house. I awoke shouting at hubby to get out of the burning house and was actually fighting to breath properly myself, for about 10 minutes after waking.Besides being bathed in sweat, my heart was racing so much, I actually felt rather ill. Hubby, of course, slept through all this and just snored loudly..............his concern overwhelms me!!! :lol
Anyway,I tested my blood sugars once I'd calmed down and they were fine but had GONE UP by this morning. Very unusual for me. I know about the dawn phenomenon but was curious to know if stressful dreams have an impact on B.S.?

If the dream/s cause stress and anxiety then theoretically that could cause your bg levels to rise. An interesting question.

I hope your dream wasnt a premonition choco

, perhaps you should go away that weekend

I guess that if a dream is vivid enough to release stress hormones then you'll likely see a rise in blood sugars, Choccy.

Incidentally, I did once have a dream that I was eating a giant marshmallow. When I woke up, my blood sugar was fine, but my pillow was missing.

I think my funniest dream was when I had words with my mother in a dream. She accused me of being pregnant but when they took me into hospital, they discovered my bump was actually just full of strawberry jam!! I guess I was just well 'preserved'!

I've just had a terrible dream that I posted a tired old gag about mistaking a pillow for a giant marshmallow (©Ken Dodd, 1963). I tried to remove the post, but 17 people had already quoted
it in their shocked and appalled replies.

I woke up in a cold sweat.

To make matters worse, there's still no sign of that pillow.

I was drinking water when I read that.
It came out my nose.
You owe me a new keyboard!

Timo.
The old ones are the best, eh Karen ? You crack me up Timo. I've been away a few days and what do I see when I get back. The oldest joke in the book from the oldest swinger in town !! I just spilled my coffee. splutter... :D

Well, my dreams just lately have turned into nightmares as well. From sun kissed beaches and long walks on a beach to plane crashes and trips down dark scary places. Not sure if it affects my Bg levels at all, just makes me swear that I will not touch another drop of the 'hard stuff ? ' Karen, what you been drinking.....??

Ken.

It works the other way with me, BG levels affect dreams. I've woken from some scary dreams and tested and been very low.

Ditto Phoenix,
My son Andrews nightime hypos always coincide with nightmares, if its the low bs that make his dreams bad or the nightmare lowering his bs i just don't know. But what i do know is that, if it wasn't for the nightmare when low would he indeed wake himself up!

I think I'm still being mistaken for 'Karen'? Well it saves me having to get out the trilby and dirty mac, I suppose.
