2 slices of bread is about 17g carb per slice, so a sandwich would be about 34g.

Exactly how many grams of carbohydrate are you meant to be eating for each meal using twice daily insulins? Has a diabetes nurse told you about counting the amount of carb in food and given you some information on how much to eat?

When you go to the supermarket to buy food in packs, try to buy brands that list the carbohydrate content per 100g weight (Natco is one brand). If this is not possible, then using the list that I posted in another msg to you, try to get yourself some 'measuring cups' which can be bought on eBay or in some shops. Each 1 cup or 1/2 cup will equal 10g carb (1 exchange) so just look and then you can work out the amount of carb in the food that you want to eat.

This is another site that might help you http://www.diabetes.ca/files/carbohydra ... -asian.pdf

Also, if you telephone DUK London, you can ask to have a carb count diet sheet for Asian food and someone will send it to you in the post.....

That's great help Thankyou !!!

Hi. Cheese is OK for diabetics. As the last poster says, just check that the bread carb level is matched to part of your daily carbs plan. If you cut thin slices the carbs may come down to 13/14 gm per slice.

What type of cheese I can take ???
Should I take it with brown bread !!!

Hi Sameer. It shouldn't matter too much what sort of cheese as the carb level should be very low in most cheeses. Use the lowest GI bread you can get and like. Go for multigrain if you can. I buy a 'low-GI loaf' at my local baker.

As a late night snack..... eat just 1 slice of bread with some cheese as this will be less carbohydrate.

If you can, go to supermarket and buy brown bread with lots of seeds/grain in it and then use knife to cut a thin slice. In the UK, many people buy Burgen Soya and Linseed bread which is available as already sliced and is lower in carbohydrate.

As an alternative to a cheese sandwich, may I suggest cheese and celery?
Very few carbs and probably no affect on blood glucose

Sameer is using insulin - twice daily, so probably does need to eat a snack about 5hrs after eve injection but only a bg test will give the info as to how much carb the snack needs to be. Eating just cheese and celery might cause him to go hypo unless his bg level is fairly high.

Hi All.
I have a couple of crackers with lancashire cheese and slices of either cucumber or tomatoe on.
I use the really thin flatbreads only!
Maybe have a small apple sliced up or a handful of grapes too.
[put it all on a really small plate , makes it look a lot  ]
Suppertime after doing my insulin - this keeps me covered for the basal background insulin .
Prevents a night time hypo too .

Crackers are less carbs for myself than slices of bread especially later in the evening
when the digestive system slows down .
I personally cant handle nor tollerate bread [wheat/gluten intollerant]
Crackers are better for my system to handle I have found .
But this is just 'me' ...

Anna.

Thankyou all I will buy cheese with low thing in it but what lol ???
And will take it with brown bread !!!
Thanks

My dad is 80 and he can only make a sandwich. On my night off from taking him a meal he uses weight watchers bread, 9g per slice. I am not sure which one it is as it is in my online shopping basket. He likes the independence of making his meal and I know the carbs are lower than normal sliced bread. I bet his carers chuckle seeing I buy diet bread so to speak for him.

Thanks
