Thanx everyone. I really don't know what I would have done without this forum. Probably bashed away at the eatwell plate and given up in frustration eventually! I feel so much fitter and healthier and most importantly in control because of the advice and information on here :).

GP as our surgery doesn’t appear to have a Nurse specialising in Diabetes luckily.

Maybe if you asked your GP, you could get a part-time job, as you have proven you can get at least one person's BG under control.......

My nursing days are over, I’ve retired and let my registration lapse, but thanks for your vote of confidence in me x

You actually saw your GP?
Wow - I was diagnosed 14 months ago and have not seen mine since.

Just came back from doctors with new hba1c result taken Jan 12th. Diagnosed early September with hba1c of 95 now it's down to 49. A good drop but I was hoping for more.
Why the need to vent . Told now that my blood sugars were stable thanks to doctors medication ( obviously the drop is all to do with the metformin not my Herculean attempt at diet control) I don't need any more blood tests for at least 6 months.
Also as the cut off point for diabetes is 48 was told I'm not really of concern any more ( not best pleased when I told him I knew that 42 to 48 was at least prediabetic and still cause for concern)
I suppose I was stupid to expect more and do I really need a pat on the back and support to get it down further from him .... no I've had the only support worth having from this forum.
Anyhow l've been off loaded onto the diabetic nurses for my sins so judging from all your accounts I've got more jolly high jinks to look forward to.
Ok vent over (managed not to swear once so saving moderator redaction) well done me.
Willl continue to self test, low carb and lose weight. Here's hoping next ones in the thirties :)

I completely feel your pain.
After my initial diagnosis with an A1C of 111, and high cholesterol, I invested in a Freestyle Libre and when I asked the GP to switch to Metformin SR and sign a certificate so I could take the Libre on a flight/through security, he told me I was wasting my money,

When I brought mine down to 59 in just three months he was impressed but just like in your case, he told me it was purely down to taking the tablets. Absolutely nothing to do with moving from High GI foods to low, or taking a vested interest in learning what foods were making me spike.

The sum of his advice was... stop having fizzy drinks and sweets when you are away covering a tournament, absolutely no advice on understanding the effect of carbs. That all came from here and my own research.

I went back to a different doctor for something for the skin irritation from using the Libre, and she told me that I was a rarity (for their practice) in being proactive and wanting to improve my situation and that most people that come through their doors take the tablets and continue to eat whatever they like because they are in the mistaken belief that the Metformin counter acts everything thy eat. Therefore carry on as before and just keep taking the tablets.

Just keep doing what you are doing for your own health. You are doing fine.
