Cereal bars

Interesting the Kellogs spokesman says
A spokeswoman for Kellogg's, which makes the Nutri-Grain Elevenses bar and some of the other snacks tested, said: "We're confused as to why anyone would call a Nutri-Grain Elevenses snack a cereal bar

Well perhaps the name!
Stick Nutri grain bar into google and you come up with the US site which has nutri grain bars labelled as cereal bars. There aren't any Elevenses bars though

If you look on the UK website there is an Elevenses bar . It is marketed as a cake , no mention of it being a Nutribar.

Yet what seems to be exactly the same bar can be found on supermarket websites with the 'Nutrigrain' logo emblazoned in the middle of the pack!

Totally agree with Swimmer2,

Time to stop eating cereal bars people..

My lot brought some bars home the other day, (not cereal bars yet expensive I think).
They were called "nakd cocoa orange" It contained 4 ingredients + a hint of something.
Apparently I was allowed one which was quite pleasant.

The question that I would like to ask. " Can anyone recommended cereal or any type of bars which we could have " :?:

I am on one of those vegan, including no sugar,oil and no fat diets,which seems to be working so far.

This is so weird,

I am not a vegan, I really thought this is ridiculous what and how am I going to eat let alone enjoy. It gets worse I have not had a alcoholic drink either.
This was a 3 month month trial, ( self appointed ).
However after a three month blood test etc; which revealed a good improvement, I decided to put myself another 3 months on this diet.

I do not want to go down that preacher road as we are all different.

You would be amazed what I can eat, The simple answer is any food that does not contain things we do not want.

Why don't you show me a simple meal I can have, then try it your self.

The trouble is, lumping all cereal bars together isn't very helpful.

The ones I use are the 9-bar - made mainly of seeds. It's high in calories compared with most, but also higher in fat and protein, which makes it a lot more satisfying. I use it mostly as a meal replacement - it doesn't spike my blood sugar, I suppose because it's high in fat and has about 12g carbs.

I also like the Nak'd bars - just the ginger bread one and the pecan pie one, both of which are around 12g carbs.

Very occasionally I'll eat an Alpen light bar, which are relatively low in everything simply because there's not much to them - as a result not very satisfying but lower in calories.

I used to love those Kellogs Nutri-grain bars, which are basically cake, but since counting carbs I've stopped eating those.

Yes, they are generally highly processed (with the exception of the Nak'd bars which are just fruit and nuts) but they are carb and calorie counted, individually wrapped and portion controlled, which makes them very convenient to eat on the go.
 
Long ago I suggested cereal bars as a useful snack.

At the same time on another thread, Fergus (hope you are still well, active, & proving the benefits of low carbing for T1s) made the comment that he would like to change the government. I replied that there was no point - we'd only get another one.
His reply - "I will not take political advice from someone who recommends cereal bars."

That comment had an impact on me above its weight. I haven't look back. And I've not voted for any person or party that formed a government or local admin in over 30 years.
 
There's cereal bars and cereal bars, from home made; lots of varied recipes on the internet to commercial one with little sugar/additives to those full of all sorts of nasties.
Even very high sugar items aren't necessarily bad on the odd occasion or when people actually require more sugar for activity.The problem with the Kellogg example was the misleading logo which drew attention to the grain content and perhaps made people ignore the very high sugar content.

I find nibbling on a chosen cereal bar useful on long walks; far better than having to resort to pure glucose every so often. I'll eat half a bar immediately before a run when I've found my glucose levels to be too low to start running. I'm in good company, Before the advent of sports gels (and even today) one of the favourite fuels of many hill runners and cyclists was flapjacks, various mixtures of oats, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, fat and sugar ie not vastly different to cereal bars.

Flapjacks, now we're talking, if I was going to go for a cereal type bar I would chose a Flapjack over a piece of Kelloggs cardboard & sawdaust every time, in fact I may buy one this week as a treat Mmmmm :D

Confession - My wife makes flapjacks packed with carbs & I eat little pieces of them - about 1-2 grammes.
