Welcome to the forum @gavfin78

The high cocoa content chocolate is very nice and lowish in carbs, Aldi do a85% one and the brand name is Moser Roth, each pack contains 5 individual bars and each one has 4g of carbs.

Lidl also do a 70% chocolate with caramel, the brand name is JD Gross and each square is 5g of carbs (squares are rather large mind).

Hope that helps somewhat.

Hi. I have Green & Blacks 85% Dark which is low carb. If you have excess weight you may have insulin resistance so should keep the carbs down if so even when on insulin. When looking at sweets or take-aways look at the total carb figure and avoid the high ones.

First of all don't apologise for asking, that's what the forum is for! Sorry you are on insulin now.

If you want to low carb as mentioned look at chocolate with a high cocoa solid. Lindt 85% is only 19g if you eat the whole bar! Also pork scratching are great, almost no carbs in them. Also supermarkets sell cheese in bite size chunks, not a traditional snack but it works for me. Some popcorn, especially savoury, is low in carbs - but read the label.

Many other regular choc bars are too high for me to consider, send my BG sky high.

As for takeaway, if I want to have good control that's sadly a thing of the past ...

Welcome Gav!

Prob the lowest carb choc on the market is Lindt 99% cocoa. It is just 4g per large bar of 20 squares.... Very rich and lovely.

@PenfoldAPD alerted us to low carb quality ice cream yesterday - just forgotten its name:)

Take aways; low carb naan www.dietdoctor.co.uk, grilled chicken, cauliflower rice, spices, non root veg and make up a simple sauce with cereal and and colour.

Good luck:)

my problem is not fast food and junk food, I love my spuds, love oat cakes and porridge, I love fruit and fruit yoghurt and whole meal earthy bread. However these have lots of carbs,as a Veggie I hate meat and cheese is full of fat, I love my veg and eat alot of salad and veg but it's knowing what to fill up on that's hard, also I miss my fruit juice, sparkling water with a squirt of lemon in it isn't the same.

There's nothing wrong with a bit of fat in the diet so go eat the cheese. Read dietdoctor.com for the science of why fat is good for you, not bad as NHS will have you believe. The fat will fill you up and not spike blood sugar so it's a win -win for good fats!

As for takeaways for OP - it depends how strictly low carb you want to be. I've had chicken kebabs and eaten just the filling so it feels like takeaway. I've also had Indian and not had rice with it but gone for the creamy sauces and a teensy bit of naan bread. Or fish and chips but just had the fish ( and left the batter - or tried to). If kept as a very occasional treat then it can help yo stick to low carbs the rest of the time. If you deny yourself completely you might crave what you can't have. if you think OK I could have it but today i choose not to or I'll have it next week, somehow the cravings tend to be less.
For chocoalte - the darker the better and I have learned to love dark chocolate having hated it all my life but the low carb way of eating has resulted in the carb cravings giong away and my sweet tooth has gone.

I came across a no added sugar chocolate in Tesco the other week, ok its not as yummy as good ol cadburies or totally carb free, but it hits the spot! Also came across a shop in Lincoln selling sugar free Thorntons continental style chocolates, they seemed to do the trick without sending the meter into silly figures!

I go to Subway and have a salad bowl quite often, they're very low carb - I think - at least they don't spike me. Despite having a wealth of nutritional info, they don't list carbs. I can also have couple of pieces of KFC and some sweetcorn which seems fine.

We have a few Vietnamese restaurants around where I work and live.
I get one of the soups and ask for it with out noodles. They just top it up with more vegetables. They are pretty high in sodium but it's a nice treat once or twice a month.
