Hiya I was passing on the dreaded news to a friend last week about my newly diagnosed Diabetes type 2. She was nearly orgasmic on information she had read about eating cinnamon every day can stop you being diabetic  is this true? has she found the organic way to sort out my condition. Has anyone heard of this cos it sounds a very cheap cure for Diabetes :?:

Ask your mate. She seems to know it all.
I've never hear diabetic specialists mention it though and if it were a cure, I think they may at least mentioned it in passing. She may be right, though I am a teensy bit skeptical.

Hope it works. Does jasmine, saffron or thyme cure T1 diabetes?

I'm eager to find out.

Good luck and I love your optimism.

There is evidence that cinnamon lowers blood sugar levels. It has to be Cassia cinnamon and not all cinnamon sold in UK supermarkets is this. Unfortunately the best way to eat it is on cereal and this tends to higher blood sugar levels.

It is reputed to reduce bg levels. I am always amazed at how these myths take hold. I bumped into a woman I had met on a childcare course many years ago. She has recently been diagnosed Type 1 and was on her way to a health shop to get cinnamon which a friend had assured her would mean she would no longer need insulin. I tried to gently explain the facts but she was adamant. Sometimes I guess we believe what we need to believe but well meaning people can do more harm than good even though their hearts are in the right place

Cinnamon has two main variants, ceylon and cassia, its the cheaper of the two reputed to be effective but the bark contains minute traces of toxic coumarin, this can be avoided by straining it into a tea, disgarding the stewed powder.
However, that said, it did naff all for me and I found fenugreek to be more effective personally.

People often mean well, but there are many medically proven methods that lead to good control of your BG levels, such as eating less if you eat a lot, dose at the sme time to obtain accurate and truer readings, carb counting, among many more. If you search the T1 and T2 forums on here, you'll find a wealth of information, which can help you to help yourself. Sadly, there is not to my knowledge a magical cure, so look after yourself and try your best. Never surrender :)

High sugar levels :(
A few days ago I started eating an apple and cinnamon cereal for breakfast and my breakfast insulin ratio has gone from 2:1.to 1:1. Probably a coincidence and maybe because I'm pregnant but it is strange.

If only it were that simple. I'd live on cinnamon buns if it meant I could take less insulin!

Cinnamon apperently lowers glucose levels by up to 30%. But weight loss & excercise are my primary methods and would expect any benefit of cinnamon to be hidden by my primary methods. I wouldn't look apon cinnamon as a magic bullet and overlook what I should be doing...watching carbs and excersising.
