Collapsed from low BS after a weekend of comfort eating

Today at 3pm I felt a bit strange so I tested my BS and they were 5 then five minutes later 4.5, I knew then that I needed to eat some carbs and I was getting to my door I suddenly collapsed, but luckily enough someone spotted me collapse and instantly gave me a drink of coke as she saw my meter. After she rang the paramedics she got me a chocolate bar to boost my BS.

I still feel in shock now and my BS at 6pm was 6.3 and now its jumped to 11.5. But, I think that I deserved it after a weekend of comfort eating as my girlfriend decided to break up with me on Valentines Day which was our anniversary and this sent me down in the dumps which made me crave all types of carbs and sugars. Now I feel guilty and still depressed.

Wow ! Hope you feel better soon ! 4.5 is not really that low that you should collapse but maybe your numbers are usually higher ? Take care !

Hi

I'm sorry to read about your girlfriend.

I've read your posts for a while, I am not medically qualified in any way But it would seem that food as a massive hold on you that you cant seem to get a grip on
I wonder if you need some help or counselling from something like over-eaters anonymous to help you get a better relationship with food and how it is affecting your health
I wish I could read that you have found something that works for you, way of eating that makes you feel better

I have tried counselling at my uni and joined a healthy living programme. The counselling gave me a list of do's and don'ts which I have been following most of the time which are:

DO
Focus on the positive aspects of your life now and in the future

Do things that make you feel good that don't involve food - if you can't identify anything think about hobbies you used to enjoy or take the opportunity to try some new things

If anxious thoughts affect your eating try not to resist these thoughts. Anxiety is unpleasant but it by itself it won't harm you. Allow the thoughts to come - this way you can begin to take control over them. You can find more information about overcoming anxiety here

Remember that there is a clear link between food and mood. Eating too little or too much will make you feel worse, which will in turn affect your eating and so on

Take small steps take towards a healthier way of eating. For example, if you can't face eating breakfast, try sitting at the table for a few minutes at breakfast time and just drinking a glass of water. When you have got used to doing this, have just a little to eat, even half a slice of toast

Be honest with yourself and with others about how much you are eating

Remind yourself that you don't always have to be achieving things - let yourself off the hook sometimes.

Make sure you know what a reasonable weight is for you, and that you understand why.

Read stories of other people's experiences of recovery. You can find these in self-help books or on the internet.

DON'T
Don't weigh yourself more than once a week.

Don't spend time checking your body and looking at yourself in the mirror. Nobody is perfect. The longer you look at yourself, the more likely you are to find something you don't like. Constant checking can make the most attractive person unhappy with the way they look.

Don't cut yourself off from family and friends. You may want to because they think you are too thin, but they can be a lifeline.

Visit websites that encourage you to lose weight and stay at a very low body weight. They encourage you to damage your health, but won't do anything to help when you fall ill.

I saw my GP yesterday to talk about my collapse and he decided to reduce my gliclazide medication by one tablet in the morning and then increased ramipril to 5mg and to take one a day for 2 weeks and then two a day after the 2 weeks. I also showed him my BS levels from Feb 4th to Feb 18th and said that I was making good progress but worried that my morning BS levels are still high.

An awful lot.
Your councilor needs to learn basic terminology telling someone dont is counter producrive the mind focus on the donts and so reinforces doing.
Should have been worded for instance on weighing
Weigh yourself once a week ....(and a reason)

Be positive. Your last couple of days - 17th and 18th are looking really good. What you are doing seems to be working, try to keep them nice and steady like that.

Hi

Levels dont look too bad. How are you feeling now?
Are the times of the blood tests 2 hours after food? For example if you have lunch at 12 , you'd be better taking your blood as 2.00 pm. This will give a better picture.

Have you managed to lose any weight?
Have you ever joined a weightloss programme like Slimming World? Maybe a group like that will give you some external support.

Keep trying!

I'm feeling ok, but I've had a persistent headache. No they are before I have my meal. I haven't lost any weight yet and still hanging around 23 stone, but I have joined a free weight loss programme in Derby called Livewell which lasts for a year and I joined in January, had a consultation and from next week I can go to the local leisure centre to use the gym and pools there. Make sure you are drinking lots of water .

Take your samples 2 hours after meals and let us know your results. It will be a more accurate picture on how you are doing

I can PROMISE you that weight loss will make you feel better. It really is worth the effort.
